I'm creating a bit of an uncommon HD shotgun in a Winchester model 120 shotgun I picked up at a gunshow. Winnies are my preferred shotgun since I learned on a 1300 20 guage. This 120 has a 24" rifle sighted smooth bore slug barrel on it and wood furniture. I plan on getting the barrel cut down and shortening the LOP on the wood stock too. I put a tac-star extension on it today and want to put a clamp on it and a small picatinny rail for a TLR-1. This brings me to my question; I'm torn between the mesa tactical clamp with the rail on it or the tac-star clamp and maybe a separate clamp on rail for the light. Two parts vs. one and the mesa part would cost quite a bit more. So does anyone have any experience with these parts and/or suggestions?

I wouldn't worry about shortening a 24" barrel. It won't make that much difference in handling the gun, and the sights are an advantage. Getting the front sight soldered back on and the barrel refinished will cost, if you want to keep the sights. Shortening the stock to fit, and installing a premium recoil pad, will help a lot.

Just use a Tac-Star clamp or the equivalent to support the magazine extension, and a clamp-on rail on the magazine extension like the Streamlight 69901 ( http://www.opticsplanet.net/streamlight-12ga-extended-mag-tube-tactical-mount-69901.html ). I use a 69901 on the Tacstar extenson on my FN Police pump, and it works OK.

Thank you Mr. Lapin, that's all I needed to hear and the streamlight unit was the exact one I was looking at. Would you recommend a limbsaver recoil pad?
I haven't priced the barrel shortening yet from the gunsmith, so I may indeed hold off on that.

and/or suggestions?

I just go the quick and cheap route with magazine tube clamp on rails from Cheaper Than Dirt.

In low light or dark the guns are so accurate and fast with the Streamlight TLR-2 laser/light it's almost cheating.:D

I just picked up the 69901 to hold my TLR-2.

Seems to work well.

I like the LimbSaver, the KickEez works well too, as does the Remington R3. All of them are the same sort of material AFAIK (sorbothane, IIRC).

Thanks guys, nice setups. Steve, what do you have that mounted on? I like it, cheaper than mesa too.

I originally bought mine to mount on a Benelli SuperNova, but I sold it awhile back. I kept the mount and now it's on my 870. The 870 came with the factory clamp, but I wanted to mount the Surefire G2 for a tac light. The Nordic clamp lets me put it far enough back that I can engage the light with my hand on the forend at it's normal position.
