I won a Marlin XL-7 in 30-06 last winter at a NWTF sportsmans dinner. Shortly after I yanked the el cheapo scope that came on it out for my Burris FFII I had laying around. Well I took the rifle out, shot it a few rounds, sighted everything in, brought it home and cleaned it, stuffed it back in the gun cabinet and left it be. Well this afternoon I decided that with the upcoming NY and PA Rifle seasons approaching fast, I wanted to swap out the Burris for the Conquest 3x9 I had on another rifle and make my 06 the "go to" deer gun this year.
SO I get the gun out, place it in my gun vise and find what looks like surface rust on just the barrel nut. I didn't know what to do and having only Hoppes solvent on hand, I tried some on a q-tip and it seemed to lighten it up. I'm thinking the next step is maybe some metal polish?? Where do I go from here guys??
