Hi all I have. Springfield V10 ultra compact 1911 that’s my EDC. I live in Florida so Rudy is always an issue here with the humidity.

the barrel is stainless steel and I’ve got some rust inside it well quite a bit of rust actually, I’ve tried a few different solvents and cleaners trying to removing it to no avail. I’ve let it soak in gun oil and used a brass brush, still can’t get it out.

what could I use As far cleaners go to get the rust out of my barrel before it pits it and ruins my rifling? Thanks

Might want to try some Flitz on it. I have used it on guns to remove surface rust without any harm to the finish. It also leaves a protective coating to keep rust from forming again.

Flitz will work. The regular Blue Wonder cleaner works good

Do NOT get either product on anything else!

Tell danged ole Rudy to keep is sweaty fingers off!

If you keep getting rust--even with cleaning & oiling,
try immersing in hot soapy water. You may have some
salty residue in there that oil based cleaners don't touch.

Rinse with hot water, oil her up after she's dry.

I have used scotch brite pads soaked in gun oil to remove minor barrel rust from some muzzle loaders.

WD40 actually works OK on rust, you could also try making a paste out baking soda and water, then coat the inside the barrel with it and let it set for a couple of hours. Then scrub it out with a wetted nylon bore brush. If your bore is so rusted that you have to go above and beyond what would be needed to remove heavy powder and metal fouling then you're probably screwed already.
I would be wondering why my stainless steel barrel is getting rusty in the first place, even in humid conditions, a good lubricant / preservative like Break Free or Ballistol should be sufficient protection for firearms that are regularly maintained.

Always use the mildest stuff first--both Blue Wonder and Flitz are mild and Blue Wonder does remove it pretty well by loosening it which then allows Kroil to get up under it and float it off. Had success in preserving bluing from Krusty the Rust Clown that way. I would not advise using Naval Jelly inside a barrel unless you are sure that you can neutralize every bit of it as that is the heavy artillery of rust removal. There are some other similarly tough rust solvents but you really don't want anything to remove barrel material.

What you are describing might be copper fouling of some sort if you had a rough spot in the barrel. These can look the same under some circumstances without using a borescope. Might want to get at least a cheapie from Amazon (or the Teslong) or have a gunsmith look at it.
