I'm having this Super Blackhawk re-barreled, out of necessity. Will replace it with another 7 1/2" tube.

I've had problems with the ejector housing screw puling out under recoil, and now my gunsmith, Keith Warner, tells me there is not enough metal to hold a screw thread. I don't want a big stud, but prefer to keep the same screw arrangement as factory. This will leave me with a .44 Magnum barrel.......

My thinking is probably cut the barrel to 4" and use one of those abbreviated ejector assemblys.

But a 4" Super Blackhawk? Or maybe find an original Vaquero?
Hmmmmmm........

You may want to check into the 10" Ruger heavy barrels for the Super Blackhawk... There may be more metal there to play with and the barrel can be cut down to 7.5" or shorter if you want...

I don't know what the dimensions are exactly but I believe the 10" heavy barrel which Ruger developed for the Silhouette Shooting Sport may be a good option for you...

I think you misunderstand me, I want to keep this gun at 7 1/2". I wlll have a 7 1/2" that is, for all practical purposes, unusable as is. Thinking of a short barrel .44, maybe Super Blackhawk or Vaquero.

IMHO, four inches is perfect for a round butted packin' pistol. A little shorter than a standard 4 5/8" (or 4¾") but long enough to be useful. `Tis my plan for an Old Model .357, to become a 4" .45ACP.

I think I would further look into a stud silver-soldered to the enlarged screw hole in the barrel.

Properly fitted to the enector rod housing on the inside, it is invisible from the outside of the housing.

And that will be the end of recoil shearing of the screw or loose ejector rod housing.
Ever again.

Can you elaborate on this a little? Bob isn't the only one with this problem, I got a Model P replica with a similar problem.

Thanks.
