In an earlier thread I inquired about a perfect all round rifle. Now my interest in barrel swapping has been sparked and I had a few questions. I like the idea of getting familiar with a single stock/action/trigger and not having to purchase multiple rifles for different applications. That’s why I’ve settled on the savage long action chambered for the 30-06. But I'd prefer something like the 35 wheelen for brown bear and a .270 or 25-06 for dear/mountain goat.

1. where is the best place to purchase barrels for the savage?

2. How much gunsmithing/calibration is involved in barrel swapping?

3. Is it practical/efficient to swap barrels back and fourth in the field?

4. Do you need to re-zero your scope every time?

5. I've heard of barrels wearing out, but would I need to be concerned about the action if I used it frequently for different calibers?

6. Thoughts on 35 wheelen?

7. Is there a true varmint caliber barrel for the savage long action?

8. Would I need to re-bed the stock for a different barrel?

9. Where is a good source of information on barrel swapping, besides THR of course.

10. Is there any important information on barrel swapping I should know that my questions don’t address?

Your thoughts and advice is very appreciated
Thanks

it would also be good to email Savage , and find out about their bbl swapping prgm. this should not be hard, and with the right tool, and headspace gauge, which you can get from Savage yourself, you should be able to do this.
