Has any one heard of swapping barrels on a Judge?

Can it be done and still have the gun shoot the same and be safe?

They don't make a model of the Judge I want which would be a 3" chamber 6"bbl SS. I know the Raging Judge is coming out soon, but I wouldn't have any use for the 454 Casull, and why pay the extra money for a "Raging" Judge if I wouldn't be doing any "Raging" with it? I would rather have a different 454 casull that was only chambered in 454.

So my thoughts were to buy 2 judges; the 6" 2.5" chamber and the 3"chamber 3" barrel. Then I would do the swap and sell the shorter bbl judge. Either that or I could find someone who owns the 6" version and see if they are willing to trade for a shorter bbl, and do the swap then.

my reasoning if anyone is wondering;

My theory is most shot shells are made for longer bbl guns and they will perform better out of a longer barrel. I want the extra cylinder length because if I am getting the bigger bbl for performance reasons, then I ought to shoot the magnum shells for the same reasons. And the most important reason; I think it would be cool, and unique.

On that note I come to my next question;
Would the spread of the shot be wider at any given distance with the shorter bbl or the longer one? shorter bbl has less time to direct the shot through a straight tube, but also less time for the rifling to spin it. On the other hand, longer barrel, longer tube to direct the shot straight, but more rifling to go through. so which has more of an effect? would the extra velocity from the longer bbl make it have a tighter shot pattern?

Any input?

thanks

No one?
On an added note I asked the owner of a local gun shop if he could do it, and he said it was beyond him. So I guess it isn't promising.

Anyone know if taurus takes custom requests?
