Basic firearms laws of MA

I will be heading up to MA next month in order to visit an old friend and was wondering about the basic firearms laws for that state, especially when it come to vehicle carry.

What do you mean by "basic laws"?

Basically it is an anti-run state. Forget vehicle carry unless it is locked in the trunk.

By basic laws I meant a general overview like:
Any licences needed to own one?
Any special provisions that need to transport?
Stuff like that.

You bet. FYI, you are about to enter the Twilight Zone of gun laws. The laws here are written deliberately vague in order to trip people up. Feel free to ask specific questions on NES if you can't figure it out from the stickies. Good luck!

Quick short answer... unless you have a non-resident LTC (cost is a piddling $100.00 a year ), don't even think about bringing in, possessing or carrying a firearm here. Same goes for ammo, and yes... even pepper spray.

...and have succeeded. I believe I saw the statistic that firearm licenses are down 84% in the last 10 years here. Oh well, I keep buying more
