I've got a friend that has to go to MA short notice.
I'm wondering if anyone has any info on what weapons can be carried in Massachusetts by non residents (without permit)?

I assumed carrying his gun was a no-no but I did come across this (which I'm doubtful is legit):
Section 131G. Any person who is not a resident of the commonwealth may carry a pistol or revolver in or through the commonwealth for the purpose of taking part in a pistol or revolver competition or attending any meeting or exhibition of any organized group of firearm collectors

Can a non resident with a CCW license in their home state really carry in MA? Can it be concealed? Does it have to abide by MA guidelines?

And if that's a no-go like I think, what other options? I've seen something about a court case that said expandable batons are not the same as blackjacks and are legal but then heard that many are charged anyway.

Thanks for any info.

Do not attempt to carry in MA without a CCW permit. Mandatory 1 year in jail. It takes roughly 90-120 days to get a resident CCWP. This place is the pits as far as guns go. Also we have an approved weapons roster and 10 round magazine limits. Find some non-lethal weapon, (pepper spray does not require permit). Good luck.

See if you can get him to visit the Old North Bridge...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_North_Bridge

...which is where...

At the North Bridge in Concord, approximately 500 militiamen fought and defeated three companies of the King's troops. The outnumbered regulars fell back from the "Minutemen" after a pitched battle in open territory.

The Redcoats wanted...

to capture and destroy rebel military supplies that were reportedly stored by the Massachusetts militia at Concord.

Then ask him to think about why, in Massachusetts, the place where the American Revolution started, gun laws are so strict.

Do Redcoats still run that State (Commonwealth)?

I have often mused that if I win the lottery and can afford a hotshot attorney, I'd get myself arrested at the Minuteman statue with the most inocuous but still illegal firearm and fight it out in court.

LNK is correct about OC spray, which was only recently decriminalized I believe.

Yes, this year in fact. So new that one might have a tough time finding it in-state.

Pepper spray and large flashlights are legal now in MA, a non-resident permit takes many months to obtain.
