Between these three it comes down to individual guns. 1st choice is a CZ 97B because of how well I shoot one and the extra 3 round capacity. 2nd choice is the 220 because I also shoot it pretty well and it has legendary reliablility. For 1911s, for home defense, pretty much anything I've had 1911Tuner check out and approve of would work for me.

So, I voted the CZ 97B. 10 rounds should be enough to get you to your long gun that you should have had handier ;)

Many semi-autos don't like SWC. The CZ 97B can be very sensitive to bullet profile. That doesn't make them unreliable guns. It just means you have to be aware of their limitations. If you need a gun that has to run with every bullet they are going to be few and far between or extensively tuned.

My Series 1 Kimber Ultra CDP does run with every bullet profile w/o tuning - guess I got a good one!

HD/Range use means the weight of the pistol is less of a consideration. I'd go Sig 220 ST. You might still find one with the old rails for a pretty darn good price. And they're SCARY accurate, believe me. ;)

I love my 1911's, too, but I've had work done on them (Bar-Sto barrel in my Springfield Loaded), so I don't think they can really be called "average." In my hands, however, the Sig's still more accurate. It's that good.

1st: 1911
2nd: CZ97
3rd: Sig220

The 1911 is what I have actually spent $$$ and bet my life on. It is the easiest pistol to shoot well, IMO.

Don't own the CZ97, but htose I have shot & lusted over have ben qulaity weapons that fit well...& can be carried C&L.

I don't like traditional DA semis. Sigs are wonderfully made, though.

I like the SIG 220 and I have yet to try the 97 but I am very interested.

However, there is nothing average about the 1911 and it is my pick. Not much of a contest since you should have picked all DA/SA's or SA's only to make it a little more fair. Had you thrown in a Ruger or some other DA/SA .45, then the SIG would have gotten the nod.

I'll throw the first stone:

the 1911 for these reasons:

1) American Classic
2)American design by the great American, John Moses Browning
3)Buy one from an American company where the handgun is made in America by American craftsmen and craftswomen :neener: :neener:
4) tons of after market do dads to add to it (buy, buy buy)

In all seriousness, I haven't touched the CZ or the Sig but haven't ever heard about any problems about either brand.

Go for the one that you like best

i voted 1911.

never handled a CZ, and the sig feels too bulky for my taste. both seem to be very nice weapons though.

my 1911 feels good in my hand, shoots well, and 7 + 1 is plenty for home defense.

The Sig is my choice. I have a 220ST beside the bed. The reasons are it fits my hand well, have never had any problems, the extra weight makes for a faster double tap and for me at least points very naturally,

Out of the box a Sig P220 is hard to beat. I love 1911s, but never without some work being done first. Richard

CZ-97B

Man....there are some myths about the CZ that just aren't going away!

It is actually the same size as my Beretta 96FS. In the slide and grip areas, it's a tad smaller really. (Not that the Beretta is a small gun, but I get tired of this 'It's Bigger than China' misconception.)
Mine hasn't needed any modifications to function properly. It feeds hardball and hollowpoints just fine. I had to fiddle around with my handloads to find the magic OAL. I could have saved some time by just measuring some S&B 230 ball to start with. :) My 97 was made in 2003, so I think they've fixed alot of the little problems the early ones had.

When I got this gun, I was debating between it and a 220. But, for half the price, the CZ won out. Also, I recently got to shoot a 220. Didn't care much for it. The grip, while it felt okay....i dunno. It just didn't shoot well for me.

As far as 1911s: They seem to like me, whenever I shoot one, I do pretty well with it. But....I just don't 'get' 1911s. Too big, too chunky, too many levers and bumps sticking out all over it. It looks like it was made in 1911 or something. :neener:

If you want "Out of the Box", then just get the SIG and your done.
Now, if you want the best... I'm going to have to say the CZ-97. If you get the chance to wrap your mitts around 12Voltman's 97 and even just dry fire it... You will be converted to the CZ.
I've got to get me another one of those... polished blue and sexy. Hmmm... that chromed look is stunning.

i would pick the 97 if it weren't so darn big. it's a beautiful gun and...well, it's a CZ! if it were a little bit smaller, i would definately choose it.

until then i will have to go with the sig.

BTDT - sold the CZ and SIG and standardized on the 1911-pattern. The consistent SA trigger and ergonomics are simply unbeatable, IMO.
