Bausch & Lomb Baltur A

I have a B&L Baltur A rifle scope. Its a 2.5X fixed scope with NO internal adjustments. All I know about it is that there was specific mounts for it that were needed to adjust windage and elevation.
Does anyone have any experience with these scopes? Could you tel me a little about 'em?
years of production?
value?

Thanks in advance,
Rupe

EDIT: misspelled the model. its a Baltur A (not Baltura A)

According to the book Old Rifle Scopes, by Nick Stroebel, the Baltur A was produced from 1963 to 1968. It replaced the Baltur (no "A", 1949-1963), but the book is unclear on what the improvements were. The specs are:

FOV 43 ft. @100 yds.
Luminosity 64.
Eye Relief 3.25"
Length 12.25"
Weight 10.5 oz.
Approx Value $40-$80

The old B&L mounts were renamed the Custom Series in 1968. Look on e-bay, auction arms, etc... The book says that the base sets are worth $25-$60 and the clamp-rings from $10-$30.

good luck!

I have a Balfor A on my Marlin 30-30. Very Very rugged. I have fallen out of a tree with the rifle and scope on my back (about 5 feet up) and it did not loose zero. I zeroed the rifle the first year I went deer hunting and didn't have to touch the adjustment screws for the following 3 years. All 4 years I got a deer.

I don't know why more people don't use the scopes and mounts. It seems like a very good system.
