That pretty much sums up 99% of the European reaction to BFC. They loved it because they love the notion of Americans killing each other. It makes them feel superior. I've been debating with Europeans since that film came out, and that's the sense I get from most of them. After all, our firearms are no direct threat to them. Nor is there any reason they should get worked up over some crime problem in the US. They need to feel superior, and deep down they are jealous of American power.

Not to sound too terribly crass or anything, but I'm supposed to be concerned what the artsy set in Deutschland thinks about me why, exactly?

My best friend recently discovered that, once his American citizenship is awarded, under the new German laws, he will lose his German citizenship. His response to the news was eloquent, if laconic; something along the lines of "Oh, well..." ;)

Do we know him?

We should ALWAYS keep one eye on the krautlanders. We didn't, and it cost us dearly twice in the last century. Even in their current "love parade" incarnation, they are still a potential threat.

Muslim extremists and the North Koreans are a threat, not the Germans.

They darn sure tried to take away our fathers and grandfathers rights! I like some of them, but man I don't trust them. The Japanese wanted to force us into giving up our Pacific possessions. The Germans wanted to rule the damn world!

It has nothing to do with german heritage, the film is marketed in many countries with this poster...

And for example in my country there is quite a debate about the movie...

So, how about dumping this stupid german bashing? :barf:

Agreed, Gunhead.

This is marketing by MM and company. If it were sold with this cover in America, would all Americans suddenly be scum and untrustworthy?

Feh.

Congrats to your friend, Tams. And congrats directly to said friend if he reads this.

Maybe it's just me, but anytime anyone mentions the need to defend "German heritage," I start loading the high-caps.

But you're quite right--Moore is the current threat. I'm cautiously optimistic that after the big fanfare of BFC, there's a backlash growing against him. I can't be sure, but I think I've been detecting one on the net, even among his fan base. He is hard to take, even if you agree with him.

Although a good friend of mine working in a bookstore had to stock the movie, he made sure only the US version was available, with the US cover, which seems to be less aggressive.

Although, if Michael Moore tried to cross the road when the lights on my side switched to green and then a trucker would flatten him, I'd just cite an infamous director of some Swiss institution "The lights are green, you have to accelerate yourself." in front of the court if I were called as a witness. This guy needs a good US Marine Corps boot camp to straighten out his liberal brain.

Some people seem to forget that:

a) Michael Moore is American, not German.
b) "Bowling for Columbine" is a commercial movie.
c) The purpose of that movie is to make money, lots of it, taken out of the pockets of simple minded people.

Muslim extremists and the North Koreans are a threat, not the Germans.

To quote Tom Lehrer's song "MLF Lullaby",

"Once all the Germans were warlike, and mean,
But that couldn't happen again.
We taught them a lesson in 1918,
and they've hardly bothered us since then!"

Its not so much a "European -vs- American" struggle as it is a "Socialist -vs- American" struggle.

Remember that Michael Moore and his ilk are right here.

I downloaded it one time. It's not as bad as you might think on the anti-gun front, but virtually the whole thing is skewed BS anyway.

No need to argue with people, just point them to: http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html

If they still say how great the film is then there is no need to argue with them, they are complete idiots.

I'll give the Germans a pass on this one. It's probably just their way of psychologically dealing with their own school gun violence problem < /sarcasm >:

One dead in Germany school shooting

A student shot and wounded a teacher and then killed himself on Wednesday at a high school in the southern German town of Coburg, police said.

Police said the teacher was shot in the thigh by the 16-year-old student.

According to a local journalist speaking on German NTV television, the student had entered a classroom at the high school armed with a pistol and fired a number of shots.

The female teacher was hit in the leg when she tried to take the handgun away from him.

Other students barricaded the door to the classroom and the teenage gunman then shot himself.

Germany was stunned in April last year, when a 19-year-old former student went on the rampage at a high school in the central city of Erfurt killing 16 people with a pistol before taking his own life.
