Chronograph results from 12-9-2011

  • Temperature 27 degrees – sunny and bright – Bristol Range, Bristol WI – Outdoors – 2:55 PM
  • Bullets = Bayou Bullet 147 grain cast lead flat point, coated – 9mm
  • Brass = mixed range brass -- Primers = Federal Match Small Pistol MFG PART #100M
  • Chronograph = Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital Chronograph #CE13800
  • All powder was measured out using the Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Scale and Dispenser

I did 3 loads (5 rounds each) using different amounts of Hodgdon HS-6 then averaged the results -

4.40 grains = velocity reading of 843 -- USPSA Power Factor of 124
4.60 grains = velocity reading of 859 -- USPSA Power Factor of 126
4.80 grains = velocity reading of 909 -- USPSA Power Factor of 133

I TESTED 10 MORE ROUNDS BUT SWITCHED POWDER. I did 2 loads (5 rounds each) using different amounts of Clays Universal then averaged the results –

3.00 grains = velocity reading of 827 -- USPSA Power Factor of 122
3.50 grains = velocity reading of 934 -- USPSA Power Factor of 137

I shoot in an indoor league on Tuesday nights. Last time I was shooting Missouri Bullets 147 cast lead with a lubricating ring and Hogdon HS-6. The guy next to me asked if I was shooting “black powder”. He was joking of course, but his point was a good one. Good Lord that combination smoked up the whole range. Donnie Miculek claims his Bayou Bullets are “Smokeless” and I can truly say he is not exaggerating. Wow, what an improvement. I have a couple hundred of the Missouri Bullets already made up…but I will save them for shooting outdoors. I am sure my fellow Tuesday night shooters will appreciate it.

End result? I love my green bullets!

I stumbled across his bullets in a local forum (in SE Louisiana), and couldn't help but order 1k to try them out. These are no joke! Great for indoor ranges. In fact, it is all I shoot at indoor ranges.

Aside from having no smoke to speak of, they are some of the most consistent cast lead bullets I have ever seen in my life. A test sample of 50 from a box of 500 .40 S&W 180gn TC showed weights from 179.9-180.1. Virtually no deviation!

Thanks for the report.
Any residue or build up in the barrel after a 100 or so rounds using the Green Bullets?

No, very clean. I gave the gun and barrel a good cleaning before I went out, and after. I ended up putting 200 down range...as clean as could be expected. None of the black soot that I was used to.

I tried Dardas and Missouri Bullet and had nothing but smoke and trouble. I even threw some of the Darda away. I will shoot up the Missouri Bullets, because I have a couple hundred of them, but from now on it is Bayou Bullets for me!

I have personally shot about 500 .40 in one session with absolutely no leading or buildup of any sort.

Do they take Credit Cards now, or is it still Money Order/Check? This has been my only hold up. I don't like the idea of sending a check or money order, then having to wait for it to get there.

GAHunter-Donnie is good people, zero need to fret or worry over a transaction with him. I've been loading his green kryptonite bullets in 9's, 40's, and 38's now for a few years and have had nary a problem.

Very consistent, and very accurate.

The best load I've worked up in a bone stock Glock 22 with the BB 180gr Trunicated Cone is a hair under 1.5" at the local 50' indoor range with Power Pistol.

Dirty

My last order was about a year ago, and Donnie took my CC info over the phone. Had my bullets the next day; granted I only live about 50 miles away from him, but you get the picture.

Great! I will give him a call Thursday. I really want to try his bullets out to save some $$. I normally try to make all my purchases with CC or paypal. To me it just seemed to be a PIA to mail a check or money order then wait for it to arrive before bullets are shipped. I'm ok waiting a week or so for my shipment to arrive knowing it's already paid for and I'm squared away with my supplier. I have heard great things about his bullets.
