Who does the best artwork, and which weapon would you put it on? I am thinking I really want one of these before the next Obama scare! :banghead: Any pics would be appreciated.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

As far as art goes, I can tell you that I like Dale Chihuly. I am fairly certain that he doesn't do anything with guns though.
 
I might be wrong but I believe BBQ guns are highly decorated handguns. During big BBQ's and family get togethers out west they show off their fancy shootin irons.

Hmmmmmmm..... now...... we were supposed to just know this?... I've never heard of such practices....

Wish my family had BBQ's like that..... but more off I wish posters asking questions would be more articulate.... (not jabbing you doc.... since that apparently was the universally accepted use of BBQ?)

EDIT- YES, now that is what I was thinking of when I heard BBQ gun CoRoMo..... lol... I'd feel a little intimidated driving behind the guy hauling that!!!... glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get it.....
 
Thats what I call a BBQ grill, where can I get one? Be great for shoots and gatherings.

BBQ guns are guns that you wear openly and are usually highly decorated with engravings, or some nice shine of some kind. Usually in a leather holster with some embossing.

Nice looking stuff, like you wear to the neighbors BBQ cookout. Sunday best as it were.....

What state are you in? Pretty common term here in Texas, not sure about the rest of the country.

I once heard the term while watching an episode of Cowboys, and I think you are right--plated, engraved, fancy grips, fancy belt and holster. Kinda like what Gene and Roy wore, and Hoppy.

Probably applies more to CAS-related social events than to just "out west."

A quick trip to the Colt website shows that they still do it. May cost more than a car, but if you want a real Persian rug you don't contract with someone in Viet Nam.

Model P, of course.

Darn, it would be nice to get one.

I saw a Colt Woodsman with Colt engraving for sale the other day for more than $3,000. Gone in less than a week.

Not too fancy really. Not like some I've seen. Some people get carried away.

Fancy guns with nice grips and a nice tooled holster. Also known as "court" guns. What you would wear to the courthouse when it's your day to testify or supervise a defendant/prisoner.

You boys need to get to Texas more often., You'd know these thangs.
 
I can't stand engraving on firearms, but I like a nice revolver, either high polish blue or stainless steel with wood grips in a nice leather holster. Single or double action.

A classic auto, like a 1911, Browning Hi Power, or one of the older Sigs also works. Something with nice lines and good looks.

We probably couldn't be much further apart and still be in the contiguous 48.... I'm in MN.... lol..... but we still like a good BBQ here too you know.... :)

Interesting tradition.... gotta give the kudos to Texans for that one I guess...... since around here people would freak on you all armed up at a BBQ.... and you can't even go into a courthouse with a large belt buckle on.... lol...

Thanks for the heads up...... back to the original post.... I have NO IDEA where you could get a good artist to do that kind of work....

BBQ guns aren't just for Texans. You are either young, or you live in an area where traditions have become so politically-correct as to lose this meaning.
 
A BBQ gun is a fancy, showy sidearm worn to events (such as a BBQ) where you can show off and maybe even do some actual shooting.

This is the quintessential BBQ gun. Engraved, ivory stocks, fancy tooled leather belt and holster with a gold buckle and inset silver dollar.

I can smell the ribs now.

I'm a big fan of Chihuly glass (sorry guys art not optics) but I'd suggest some other guys for gun work as well!

I must admit the first time I ever heard the term BBQ gun was around some Texas LEO's. There are some specially requested red 2RCo grips somewhere down there on a really nice engraved Colt or two.
 
CoRoMo, that is awesome. My BBQ is either my .44 Mateba or my V12 .45 Super.
