I'm looking into what to spend my re-enlistment bonus already, I'm looking into a gun for fun at the range, I want to stay at 1900-2000 for the base price of the gun before any add ons and I am stuck between a bcm eag and a dsa para elite.

I'm torn between them for 2 different reasons, the eag is cheaper to shoot and more framiliar but at the same time there is something satisfying about a 308 hole and the fal may be a nice chnage as the m4 is starting to get kinda old to me.

give me your thoughts.

DSA makes a nice FAL. Also i assume they hold their value well so if you didn't like it you should be able to get most of your money out of it.

I would agree that you may be sick of the M4. 308 rifles are fun to shoot. Also there should still be lots of surplus ammo 7.62 Nato around if you decide to go that route.

Ive owned both a nice FAL and a M1A/M14. They were OK but I'm more of a AR guy so I have a 308 AR. But if you're sick of ARs you may enjoy the FAL allot more. I'm sure the model you mentioned (the Para Elite) should be a great rifle.

I'm really leaning torwards the 308 on this one. I must say though I'm almost considering requesting europe for my next duty station to insure I'll save the money rather than spend it on alot of guns so maybe when i get back i can afford a lwrc international repr 18"-20" with a us optic sn-3 on it, seems like a good compromise between the two

I guess it depends on whether you want a rifle that is more optimized for close range (say under 300m), or medium range (say 300-700m).

If the only purpose is fun at the range I guess the type of range facilities available to you may dictate some of that. If you can't shoot out past 300m anyway, I would probably just get the AR since ammo is cheaper.

That is assuming barrier penetration, downrange energy, terminal ballistics, etc. are not an issue for you.

Ever shot an M1 Garand? For 2000 you can get a hell of a piece of history. It punches 308 holes with authority!

If you want the right answer, you must ask the right question. The right question is, "Should I get the BCM AR or the DSA Para FAL first"

I looked at the DSA rifles last year but didn't like the warning about not shooting steel cased ammo in their rifles. If I spend $1800 or so on a rifle I want to shoot whatever I want in it. I know that some people get angry when you talk about shooting cheap ammo in a $2000 (or so) rifle but when I watch their vids of 25 yd rapid fire and 3 gun type shooting I don't believe that I need sub MOA ammo for this kind of shooting. To each his own. I have a limited amount of money for ammo each month and will match the ammo to the type of shooting that I do.
The DSA's are pretty cool though and I can understand wanting something different from what you use. Have you considered the .308 that LMT is selling to the Brits for a DMR rifle?

I did actually, it really seems like a gun worth just saving the extra $ for, but when I started looking at that I ended up stumbling upon the lwrc repr which I actually like better based on what I have read about it, even so the money issue still exists.
