i have a .22, an ar-15 carbine, and an m-1 garand. theoretically i can fill all three of the vital rifle roles. a .22, a carbine and a full sised MBR. but i really want another rifle and was thinking along the lines of a .308 MBR with a detatchable magazine. an m-1a is out of the question becase i am getting one from my papa in a few years anyway, so... im stuck with either an fal or some type of HK-91 type of rifle.

i really like the look, feel, and functionality of the fal but an HK would be very cool. the only thing that will decide between the fal or the HK-91 is price and id like to keep the price around $800. a real HK is supposed to be around 2000 bones but i hear that clones and the CETME are way cheaper. i also hear that the CETME is crap. could someone give me some info on those clones.
also, witch kind of fal is the best value? dsa's are great but theyre pretty expensive. so is there a cheaper alternative, say... a century arms, or some kind of surplus rifle? but remember i still want to buy the best i can afford.

any help is appreciated.;)

In my opinion, the Saiga 308 is the dumbest "battle rifle" one can buy. It's retarded.:barf:

Why? Well, I don't think an 8rd magazine can make it qualify as a battle rifle and there are 20 rounders available though........for $45!!!:barf: :barf: :barf:

Look around for the most basic DSA or Enterprise Arms FAL battle rifle. They should be around $900-1,000. 20rd mags are everywhere for only 5-10 bucks each.:)

The PTR91's are really nice too.

Priced somewhere between the Saigas and DSAs.

Maybe 800-1000 for the standard model IIRC.

whats wrong with 8 rounds? i can think of one 8 round rifle that is the definition of a battle rifle. and i can think of several 5 rounders that are probbily the most prolific rifles ever ( Mauser, Mosin, Mas, and Steyrs, with Carcano's and K31's sporting 6 rounds)

thanks guys, i think ill just have to save a little longer than i originally planned and get a dsa. i never really liked the sagia for several reasons, but i wont get into that. although if the mags ever get cheaper then i just might buy one.:)
