I am looking at BCM 14.5 mid length barrels and am having a little trouble determining what the difference is with some of these and hope someone with more knowledge on the subject can fill me in.

I understand the weight differences, but I'm having a little trouble determining where the weight was removed. It would appear that the diameter of the barrels between the gas block and the receiver are the same on the lw, bfh and standard models, and that all of the weight has been removed forward of the gas block on the lw, is this accurate?

I'm just trying to get an idea of what effect this is going to have on overall rigidity, not because of accuracy as I'm sure they are all more accurate than I, but because I have bent a few barrels in my day (Gov profile) and its always between the gas block and the receiver.

Any input on the differences between any of the bcm barrel profiles is greatly appreciated.

The reason M4 profile barrels are so thick in front of the gas block is to provide a place to mill a groove to facilitate the mounting of an M203 grenade launcher. The light weight profile simply removes this superfluous to civilian feature and saves a few ounces.

As far as rigidity is concerned, take a look at some high speed footage of a rifle firing. Apart from no taper bull barrels, all profiles shake and wiggle like a gogo dancer. The best barrels simple wiggle CONSISTENTLY.
