Be 86 and 45

My only reservation about 231 is I keep hearing how sensitive it is to temperature...Wisdom from the local, but nationally ranked, 1911 guru.

Not that I poo-poo it. I have 16lbs of it in my powder magazine
I have no reason to shoot when it's very cold and I'm too old to shoot for fun when it's very hot so I guess I never noticed if W231 is temp sensitive. I don't carry a 45 Auto for SD either.

IMO W231/HP-38 and the 45 ACP are a match made in heaven.

I've never really thought that, myself. I didn't have very good luck with W231 and 230grn bullets, but 200grn'ers seem to work well enough. Back during the powder shortage, I found 10# of W231, I still have the one partially used can on the bench... I sold off the other 9#s. I don't really have anything else to load it in.

Back to the .45/BE-86 topic... I shot some test loads of BE and the .45 Colt yesterday, the results were not promising. It still delivered in my 9mm test loads, however, which is what I bought it for.

I use a lot of W231 and in the 38/357, 38 S&W, 9mm, 32 ACP, 45 ACP, 45 Colt and ever so often in the 380 ACP for a family member.

I have changed over to HS-6 for the 45 Colt almost exclusively.

See... I don't load much of that smaller stuff anymore. It would probably be great in mid-range .38, but I'm out of the .38 business now.

W231 is a great .45 ACP powder, very easy to find an accurate load with. Lots of good ones though, .45 ACP is easy.
