I would like to replace the existing bead on my shotgun with one of the fiber optic "beads" such as but not limited to those below.

I've looked at a few along with some reviews but would like some insight from this group. Any and all suggestions and comments will be appreciated with respect to brands, types, and most of all, individual experiences. Also, crimson vs. green?

Thanks

You don't have to replace the bead, just put on one of the hi-viz units with the magnets. They also have various color inserts so you can change depending on outside conditions. Not one color may be suitable for all weather/sky/background conditions.

A couple shotguns here are setup with Hi Viz FO sights. I use the smallest I could find, 3MM and in green. Red seems to disappear in some low light conditions for me. YMMV.

A couple years back, I removed the bead from a barrel and shot it that way for a few months. No difference in scores. Remounted the bead, no diff. Added the Green Worm, no difference but I got better hits. Still do.

A caveat, those without great experience or good training may focus on the bead rather than on the target. Not good....

Hi-Viz magnet mount ..comes with different color lites. I like the Green, but you may chose whatever you like. Mine stay put on the rib and have had no problems.

My input?

I don't like 'em. I think they're a waste of money, at best, and detrimental for shooting at moving targets.

I just got a new O/U with no big ivory bead like my last trap gun, no fiber bead like my usual little bird gun, just a single small metal bead.

The fiber optic on my bird gun is old so it doesn't glow much. It hasn't gotten in my way, since when I'm using that gun I'm shooting fast and instinctively (for better or worse). When hunting season is over, I'm going to put on a little metal bead.

The big ivory bead and mid bead of my trap gun, however, cost me a lot of points while I had it, by drawing my eye's focus away from the clay, and by requiring extra mental energy to keep my focus on the target.

With the new O/U it seems I can shoot better with a small metal bead, because I can focus better on the target without some big piece of crap vying for my attention on the end of the barrel.

Now I might try one of those fiber optic thingies with wings or a tube to help with cross-dominance if that becomes an issue for me again, but I figure that for a therapeutic application, not a general-purpose add-on.:)

YMMV
