Took the rifle to the range today and shot Brown Bear ammo for the first time, 7.62x39. THis stuff is the same price as wolf, was more accurate than I am, and I spent half as long cleaning my gun as the last time I shot it (with wolf). Wolf just lost a customer! I can confirm it is much cleaner to shoot.

Whoa, title meant to say Bear beats Wolf!

sorry!

This is what Ive been saying all along. That all steel cased ammo is NOT created equal and that just about ANYTHING is better than WOLF particularly anything from the Barnual Plant

The sole exception to this is Wolf's 154grn SP load

Funny, it was the shipping that beat the wolf, anyway still got most of a case of tiger ? (is that barnal too, or one of the other plants) to burn before I get to the bear, The silver is supposed to be great and not have any possibility of sticky case if you have a tight chamber.

Oh, wolf rimfire is great, it is relabeled ELEY or RWS / Dynamite, actually it might be all of them depending on the grade, I forget.

I like Bear ammo. I've never had any trouble with their .223/5.56. Both the Brown Bear 55gr FMJ and the Silver Bear 62gr JHP run fine in my AR-15 and my PLR-16.

Also, prices are coming down on it finally. Just a couple of weeks ago I bought a case of 500rds of the Silver Bear 62gr JHP for 134.95 + S&H from ammunition to go.

I just checked their site and they have Brown Bear 62gr JHP on sale for $116.95/500!

So in order of best to worst:
Silver bear
Golden tiger
wolf

correct?

Really good to know!

In our high heat and humidity the silver bear quickly becomes coated with zinc oxide white powder, Mostly a cosmetic issue, but it does cause feed issues with some magazines.

Personally I don't find any of them better enough to pay extra for, and shoot which ever one I can buy the cheapest when I need more.

Did you test with black box Wolf or Wolf Military Classic? How does Wolf MC compare to the others?

I used Brown Bear this time and regular Wolf last time. I have a case of Wolf Military Classic HP's for the x39 that will get burned next time.

I prefer Brown Bear to Silver Bear and Wolf.

Wolf Military Classic is the worst of the Russian ammo IMO. My C93 Sporter would feed standard Wolf, Siler Bear and Brown Bear ammo without issue but wouldn't cycle the Wolf Military classic stuff at all.

Maybe it's because of .223? I'm curious as to how WMC 7.62x39 performs.

Anyone really know if there's any reason to buy Golden Bear over Brown Bear? They're both steel, but I don't really see much value of copper-plating steel versus simply lacquer coating it...particularly when lacquer is cheaper.

Could be but I've put hundreds of rounds of Wolf MC through my Norinco .223 AK and never had a single problem with it. Of course I've never owned an AK that was picky on any ammo, Russian or whatever.
