Bedside 1911 Guidelines?

I have 2 bedside guns...an 870 tactical shotgun & a Glock 21sf. That said, I am not going to clear my house if I know that someone is in there. As others have stated, I'll call 911. Now I do have 2 cats that knock stuff over at night, so I do grab a gun and go through the house just to be sure. I don't want to the the guy that keeps calling 911 every time his cat knocks a book off the shelf. Hey it does give me practice going though the house with a flashlight & a gun. If I encounter a perp in one of these cat trips, I'll react...you know, fight or flight. I just don't want to blow away my mother-in-law because I forgot she came in late last night. :uhoh: That might not go over so well with my wife.

Bedside 1911

1911 chambered and cocked in a gun vault mounted to my bed rail.

I have needed it twice and my Jack Russel alerts me and I just point where he is barking. I never have to worry about changing his battery's :).

If at anytime you are handling a handgun when coming out of a dead sleep it can be dangerous in any "mode" , every couple of weeks I will pull out my bedside gun as if I have an intruder to help with conditioning in case I need it.
