I have put the R-7 (Weihrauch) .177 air rifle to heavy use recently due to the squirrels eating my truck engine wiring.
($1,000 in repair bills since February this year!)

The gun kept shooting the screws loose and losing zero, and lock-Tight wasn't helping.

I think I finally found the problem tonight.

The front action screw with the big bite lock-washer kept getting loose, and I couldn't figure out how.

So I had the stock off again tonight, and when I laid it down, the steel bolt ferrel in the stock fell out!!!

Over time, the stock must have changed or shrunk enough the knurling let go and allowed the bolt & lock washer to back out because the lock-washer was turning the stock ferrel out with it under vibration.

I glass-bedded the ferrel in the stock, and torqued the three screws with blue LT on them.

I have a feeling my problem will be over when the chemicals kick over and harden tonight!!

James maccari at air rifle headquarters has many parts and knowledge in the HW and FWB sporter realm... the yellow forum has many experts too if that does not fix it- but it sounds like a solid fix :)

RC, i have killed many, many red squirrels for the same reasons.... mostly using my cz 634 cal 177.... which also seems to get loose screws...... repairing wires and all kinda other stuff that those darn red squirrels get into also causes a loose screw or two in my head as well....
They truly are a pain. I also keep a digital multimeter handy and a wiring kit..... and will be using some blue Lt..... all the best...

Seems to be holding today.

I sighted it in this morning.

10 shot, 1 ragged hole at 10 yards in the basement.
5 in 1/2" in the wind at 25 outside.

3 more squirrels this evening.

Seems to be working good enough. :D

3 more breeders gone(this time of year).... now that should count as a dozen by spring.....
I like the little critters in the movies, but really hate them anywhere near my property. Vermin plain and simple....

That's a wood stock, yes? Seems to me that expansion and contraction of the wood made the gnurling on the ferrul act sort of like a file on the wood. The epoxy should expand and contract less. I think you'll be happy with you fix for a long time. Good Fix RC

4 in a row, out to 40 yards this afternoon!

40 yards with an R7 class airgun is kinda on the low side isn't it? They are not powerhouses to begin with... small squirrels maybe?

Although they ARE accurate enough if the hunter is...

Yes, they are not very powerful.
Yes, 40 yards is pushing it.

But that average size 40 yard squirrel apparently didn't get the memo on that.

4 for 4…… gotta like that, good shooting….. And it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to see other folks enjoying the great outdoors and resolving that darn squirrel problem….:D

RC got it, but still lmao……. That first line is a funny…. We are in different locations but the story’s the same ….. The time and cost of repair is just unbelievable…. I keep a newer travel trailer at my lake cabin in summer for overflow when lots of folks are up. I had company show up and turn the water on in the trailer…. Unfortunately one of those damn squirrels had chewed through the water line between the outside floor and the inside floor…… Made a real mess outta everything that weekend and kept me standing on my head for hours doing repairs….. And wiring in various vehicles over the years and breaking into any and everything….. Red squirrels….. Vermin….. bad bad…
And then in the city I have a neighbor that feeds the dab gung things and I can’t get a clear shoot at the feeder…. hummm
My response has been exactly the same as yours….. But I must admit your B count is way beyond mine….. I stand in ahh…..
Good work RC
