Before & After Pics of my SA 1911

So this is my 1st 1911. It's an SA Loaded Combat model. I found it a local pawn shop that deals primarily in guns. I paid $600 for it. I went to the range and shot 100 rounds with one FTE and no FTF's shooting 230g FMJ.

Then I contacted SA and told them I was unhappy with the accuracy and wear of the painted areas. They asked me no questions and immediately sent me a Fed Ex return label with RMA number.

Two weeks later it was back in my hands and invoice shows everything they replaced and repaired 100% free of cost to me.

Then I replaced MSH with Ed Brown chainlink, 21lb mainspring, GI guiderod, Cylinder & Slide light-pull sear spring, VZ Alien grips, and solid trigger that I painted black.

Now I've got to get her back to the range

So if the new finish wears off are you going to send it back again? And "painted" the trigger? That won't last long. Is this a safe queen or is it actually going to be used?

I replace grips with pretty wood. BUT, those look mighty good. Hmmmmm, ya got me thinking.

Drail, I don't own any safe queens so this won't be one either, however it's not something that I will carry either. If the paint wears again, I may just send it back again, what's it to ya? The trigger is painted with Alumahyde which forms a hard epoxy so it should last a good while. If it doesn't... oh my gosh, I may have to paint it again. I actually enjoy taking my guns apart so this wouldn't bother me.

I was definitely impressed with SA customer service and their quick turnaround time. They exceeded my expectations and most companies, gun or otherwise, fail to even meet expectations when it comes to customer service.

IMO Springfield builds the best 1911 for the money. I own SA/Wilson/Kimber/LB/Colt/SIG 1911s. I have shot most of the other brands out there, courtesy of friends. I wouldn't part with any of the different models of 1911s I own without sellers remorse. But always reccommend Springfield as a one of purchase or the biggining of a collection.

Looks sharp, and looks sharp! I've never tried those super poly grips myself but I wonder as far as comfort goes whether or not they succeed. They seem rather narrow, leaving a large amount of frame exposed (thus the second "sharp") but I'd say you done good. Here's hoping it spits lead and brass for many years to come.

Looks very good. yeah a little wear is expected, but the before looks like it was a truck gun.

IMO, the before pics aren't just from wear. They finish looks like it was coming off prematurely to me. I say that because I have a 3 year old black stainless Loaded and my finish isn't coming off at all.... I salute Springfield for stepping up and refinishing it....

Interesting...I had no idea S-A painted some areas on some of their guns.

I can sense a need for after market touch up paint.

Love the two tone look. The grips are a great accent. Very nice. I'm leaning toward an SA for my first 1911 and now I know why.
