I was under the impression that the mainspring only serves one purpose: to release the hammer to impact the firing pin. So the greater the mainspring poundage, the harder it will impact the firing pin.

That’s not what I am looking at when I am playing with main spring weights. I think you should play with a few just different ones just so you can feel the difference they make in how the gun reacts when fired. It will give you a better understanding of the subject.

I made this little fixture to make it easy for me to swap them out. Made it much easier for me to test different ones at the range.



If you start playing with the firing pin stop, be prepared to go through them again, as they both have quite an effect on how the firearm feels when fired.
