Behold! The horrible price of dropping your gun.

Once when I was young (11-12) I dropped my fathers nickle plated Colt Python
It was at a range, my father had put a big block of wood on the table and a sand bag on top of that.
I had just finished shooting and left the gun on the bag, I turned to see who my father was talkin to and when I looked back it was gone!
I first thought someone took it then I looked under the table on the concrete floor and their it was
My father did not notice and I never told him  I picked it up and didnt see any scratches, looked through the Leupold and all looked good, I thought for sure it would have been cracked.
I felt really bad and really dumb, still do!

I never dropped any of my guns yet, but I fell up (yes, up...) the stairs yesterday while carrying my Glock17 in my right hand, slamming it hard on the stairs. I'm glad it was only the Glock though, and not one of my fancy guns :D

after 45 years

I just dropped my first gun in 45 years, dropped my k9 kahr on the kitchen floor when taking it out of my leather vest. No bang, not supposed to either but one never knows as SR9 owner are well aware of. But is scared me though...

As a fellow Mosin owner, I must say that was really funny, Cosmo!

Once, I was shooting my Browning Buck Mark Bullseye in a muddy field. As I was crouching down to reload a mag for it and a mag for my SIG, I put the Browning in my lap. WELL, I kinda forgot to remove the Browning from my lap when I stood up. Awe, crap! Target pistol in the mud! No real damage, though.

I've never dropped a gun in some spectacular way, like breaking a mountain with a Mosin! :what: :D

Hey, buy a French surplus weapon. They've never been fired and only dropped once. "Sacre bleu, I surrender!!"

i dropped my glock once, it had factory sights, the rear sight slid half way out and chipped (?) the corner

in bootcamp on parris island i dropped my m16 once in front of a sgt major :banghead: i promised myself i would never drop another weapon..... as i was being PT'd to death

Dropped a Taurus PT99 out of the safe the other day while digging for the right gun. Had a silicone impregnated bag around it at least. No scratches or dents. Promised myself I would be more careful next time.

Ahh, the beauty of Kel-Tec..

Not that I don't carry nicer guns, but Idont worry abot dropping it when I do carry it.

This illustrates the important point of not trying to catch a falling gun. It's our instinctive reaction when we realize something valuable is falling, but I bet fumbling for a pistol in midair has caused more discharges than guns simply hitting the ground.

I was at a duck hunting camp cabin and had leaned my beautiful Miroku O/U up against the door jam while I unlocked the door. Went to pick it up and knocked it accidentally and it hit the concrete step to the door and dented the rib. Could have been worse, but vowed then and there to get a knock-around shotgun that I wouldn't care if it got dinged in the bottom of a duck boat. Retired the Miroku to the trap field; bought an 870 Express and lived happily ever after.

I'm really sorry to hear about that N.J., seriously. But "Behold! ..." is just funny. I imagine you are in the world of The WHeel of Time getting a crowds attention in a temple, standing in front of something huge you are about to reveal (I.E. magical), then it's something crappy. Bellowing BEHOLD! and revealing some jacked up sword that fell down the mountain.

BEHOOOOOLD!

Finally someone gets my comedy. I'll be on Broadway next week, try the fish, it's excellent. :neener:

knocked my unloaded Ed Brown Executive Carry off the shooting bench on to the concrete floor of the range. An inspection revealed no damage (but I don't look too closely). Everything seems okay.

We've all dropped one I'd bet

I dropped my Swiss K-31 once. :cuss: No harm at all. My Dad was with me. I asked him if he thought it was safe to shoot. He said "Hell son, the Swiss used those things to drive tent stakes into the frozen ground. Chamber a round and keep on shooting. You hurt the concrete more than the gun." :D

I don't recall dropping many guns in my lifetime but the ones I did never had any problems. But I never buy plastic guns either. If it is not made of steel or a good metal alloy, I have no use for it unless I can buy it dirt cheap and sell it or trade it at a decent profit. :neener:

In basic training I dropped my m-9 right in front of one of the drill sargeants after that I learned my lesson and hope to never have it happen again. Took a while to earn the pistol back.

So, the lesson is either leave crappy sights on your gun so as not to attract gravity or...?
Use tactical anti-gravity sights, of course.
I guess this is one reason why I like fixed sights on handguns. Drop 'em on tile, bounce 'em across a concrete floor, and they still work just fine.

Come to think of it...

I'm surprised now that nobody mentioned what happens when you drop a Mac-10 (or whatever it was) in the movie TRUE LIES with Ah-nold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis (hot). If it falls down the stairs, it will keep on shooting and kill all the bad guys no matter where they are! :what:

The Doc is out now.

Oh yeah?

Oooooh, sounds like talking from experience there.

The Doc is out now.

My 10/22 was blown off the bench at the range once. I was walking down to check my targets when a gust of wind blew me sideways a half step. I heard the Ka-CHUNK! 25 yards behind me. Dangit. . . Scratched the stock, dented the scope, and screwed up my zero. I was not pleased.

I forgot to put a belt on once and as I was running up the stairs my holster popped off my waist...the gun (snug inside the holster) bouncing down the stairs was one of those REALLY long drawn out slow motion type things...

Dropped a pistol once. It was a Davis .380acp Saturday Night Special with a chrome plated aluminum frame and slide. It hit the concrete and didn't even scratch the gun.

That being said, gravity seems to increase about ten fold once you walk into my house. I drop stuff all the time. I do have some herniated discs in my neck though and that could be part of the problem.
