looking to purchase a gun belt for ccw, i have done a quick search and did not come up with anything. i know many of you are going to say to try out a few, which i will however i am more interested in what not to get.
fwiw i am 5'7" 150lbs about a 30 32 " beltsize

thanks

Most/all custom holster makers will make a gunbelt. About the only thing I can suggest is to get a real gunbelt as opposed to a Wal-Mart model.

I don't think you'll need to 'try a few'. Holsters, yes. But a good belt is a good belt - you put it in the belt loops and fasten it. Holsters come in many different shapes and sizes, different carry angles.

That's one place with gunbelts. No experience with 'em, but their holsters have a good rep. I expect their belts would be the same.
Here's a list of holster makers - most links are still active, and a lot of the links will have a gunbelt for sale.

You are going to get answers all over the board - lots of opinions.

Generally, search for holsters/holstermakers. almost all also make belts.

Most "gunbelts" are double thick and often extra wide. If this is what you want, your task is easy. If you need something that looks like a dress belt to wear with dress slacks, but is stiff enough to carry a load, that is more of a challenge. Go to the "Firearm Accessories" subforum of THR and do a search.

You are correct in wanting a "gun belt" for CCW. A good one will make a major difference in comfort and performance. I use gun belts from Lou Alessi, Milt Sparks/Tony Kanaley, and Josh Bulman. Highly recommend each of them.

Alessi's telephone number is 716-691-5615. His work is superb but be prepared to wait 5-6 months or more.

Good shooting and be safe.

You want a belt that is thick enough not to crimp uder the weight of the piece and holster. You want a belt wide enough not to roll under the weight of the piece and holster.

That said, I buy and wear leather money belts. They are double thickness and wide enough to fit the bill quite well, even under my P85 or Dan Wesson .357. They are just wide enough to fit the loops on dress slacks or a suit and look well in that environment. They are robust enough to not look out of place on jeans or cargo pants. All I have to do is change the buckle to make them un-obtrusive with which ever style I'm wearing at the moment.

Walmart has one belt that works for CCW.It is designated as a workbelt and has a diagonal yellow striped tag on the buckle.it worked for me when my 15 yr old Bianchi belt tore apart at the buckle area.
I have since replaced it with a belt from Wild Bills Cloncealment.About $65 but well worth it.

For $65 you can get a Filson double-thickness belt - made in USA, nice brass roller buckle that you can replace with your own buckle - top quality: http://www.filson.com

I've bought "real" gunbelts and none of them were as heavy-duty as the Filson belt. You don't get fancy engraving and they only come in brown, but they are exceptional.

A good belt is just as important as a good holster and gun. I ordered a custom belt from Milt Sparks and love it. It really is amazing how much of a different a good sturdy belt can make. When I ordered my belt from Milt Sparks, Inc. I was quoted a 16 week delivery date. I actually received mine in I believe 3 - 4 weeks. I highly recommend you check a custom belt out.

5.11 tactical is now making a belt called the operator....looks like a bdu belt but is double thick and kydex reinforced...i own one and love it and is well worth the 29.99 price tag....if you can live with nylon look no farther.

Any uniform store probably has the standard 1 1/2 inch duty belts worn by uniformed personnel. They come with silver or gold buckles, but you can remove them and replace them with the buckle of your choice. They run about 10 bux. Good if you're on a budget.

I'm going to second the Liger recommendation. After much very clear hinting, Santa brought me one, and I'm VERY pleased. It's MUCH thinner than a lot of the heavy leather belts, and I'm loving that it's more flexible than leather.

I like the 5.11 Trainer belt. Its designed to be stiff and hold the weight of a gun and mags well without the rollover. $25 from a police supply store or a good gunshop. Cover it with at shirt or jacket. If anyone sees the buckle, they'll think, "gunbelt." I carry with untucked shirts anyway, so it works for me.

The trainer belt is 1 1/2"
The operator is 1 3/4"

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned the wilderness "instructor" belt. Supposedly strong as :fire: , and costs considerably less than an expensive "custom," pretty plaything.

I have a RafterS sharkskin gunbelt. It is perfect for carry and casual dress. I where it almost every day whether I am carrying or not. Nice and stiff. Supports any holster I have. Good Luck.

+1 for the Beltman. I have one and it is superb. Also, the price is lower than elsewhere.

Andrews makes fine belts, but you might have to wait quite a while for yours. The Beltman had mine out to me in a couple weeks.

Go Beltman. I bought my wife one for Christmas and am insanely jealous of it. I have a Ross Leather one now, but it is Beltman for me from now on.
