Ok guys need some help.
going to get a knew knife and need some advice.
i have a BM rukus and now i'm looking to get the skirmish for the left pocket.
what you guys think of this knife over all view and for self defence.
i'm not to keen on the tip up clip i dont thinkn it can be opened as fast as tip down.

IS the lock firm and secure?

NOw i am also looking at the BM fixed resistor snody, i already have a fix nivara which is great.

so i'm not sure what to do, can anyone help me out
which knife?
Oh and i've held them both and they both feel great, but i only want one.

The knives you've mentioned are all excellent.

In my opinion fixed blades that are legal for you to carry are preferable to folders. They are faster to deploy. They have no lock strength problems. They can be carried in a greater variety of ways.

While the first rule is to have a knife the second is to train in it's use. A distant third is what knife to have. What training have you had in defensive use of a knife? on-line, Book, vid, class?

i've been training for about 4 years now, in amok and Escrima .
so yeah i've had a bit of training.
the thing is i carry a firearm to and folder are easy to carry with the firearm.
but i agree with you about fix blades and i do like them better.

blade law are basically anything goes lol..

any advice?

Not a lot of Amok folks in the US, so are you in South Africa?

Has your training focused on Pikal or Sak SaK or bolo?

I will say that with your Escrima you'd be far better than 99.9% of the people you'd have to defend against with a baton and it would give you significant advanatages over a knife.

OTOH, the frame-lock Skirmish is a great knife and could fit your style if defanging is a central part of your strategy.

yeah i'm in south africa now,
i like amok alot, much more effective in my point of view.

so the skimish you think i should get then??

i have my hand made fighitng blade for awhile now but i just want to get a knife knife.

it was more bolo. but mixed around alot.

The Skirmish is beefy and solid...and big :D
Only thing I wish it had was a better clip. I prefer tip up and find it much faster for me than tip down , but its all in what you are used to .

The 630 I had , I replaced the clip with a different clip in Ti for more gripping power to the material around the pockets.and converted it to tip-up :D

The framelock design is very strong. Mine locks like a vault with absolutely NO blade play in any direction. I like the tip-down carry personally, but that is more about what you are used to. I didn't care for the stock pocket clip either...I thought it was just too big and unsightly. I sent an email to Benchmade and asked if the clip from the 635 Mini-Skirmish would fit and they sent me one to try for free. (it does fit, but there is a little space around the clip at the attachment point, but it is mostly an aesthetics issue).

It's a great knife and I've been back to carrying mine every day again.

Skirmish is my Favorite Folder for Carry

Hello,

I love my Benchmade Skirmish, but I should warn you that I love tip down carry.

Until a couple of years ago I carried Spyderco only...now the Skirmish has ruined me for Spydercos. I just wish Benchmade made more tip down knives for carry.

The lock is immensely strong.

Good luck in your search.
