I'm going duck hunting tomorrow and I have a 12 gauge Benelli Vinci.

I'll be shooting steel shot of course, #3 heavi-shot probably...

my question is, should I stick with the chokes that came with the gun? or will I get any improved benefit of buying a choke? My cousin, who is a big big duck hunter, told me to get a kicks high flyer modified...

So I dunno if it's worth it to go ahead and get the kicks high flyer or if I should stick with the Benelli chokes? and if so, which one? (I don't think I'll be shooting more than 40 yards)... I don't mind spending a little extra money if it's gonna give me a benefit, somethings I think I need all the help I can get lol ;-)

any opinions?

thanks!

Jack

I would think your factory chokes would work just fine for a beginning duck hunter.
You will gain at least one degree of choke using steel shot, so for your expected 40 yard pass shooting I would use the MOD choke tube.

The IMP CYL tube would probably be better for hunting over decoys and closer shots.

It has long been my experiance that most folks will kill more game with less choke, not more!

In any case, you should never use the FULL or EX FULL choke tubes with steel shot.

Start with modified. Pattern your gun. None of us can tell you exactly how your load will shoot in your gun with your choke.

You don't need a fancy aftermarket choke to kill ducks. Throw in your IC choke and head out. That should produce approximately a modified pattern with steel / non-toxic shot.

pattern first

Suggest you pattern your shotgun with the duck load you're planning to use before you spend money on an aftermarket choke tube. Some of these choke tubes are mostly hype. I wasted money last year on a "pattern master choke tube" for a 10 gauge browning. Using Federal BlackCloud ammo for the first time I was missing decoying geese at 20 yards. then I read the fine print on the box "do not use with pattern master choke tubes" or something like that. When I later shot a load on paper the shot was scattered everywhere but in the center.

Also, that ridged shot in the BlackCloud loads was not even close to center. The choke tube is not an expensive fishing weight.
