I patterned my SBE II this weekend and discovered that it had a halo-like pattern with every choke. It was worse with 3 inch shells than 2-3/4, and it was worse with steel shot than lead shot, but it was a problem with all the chokes. Depending on load and shot, I'd get between 10 and 15 pellets (high of 21, low of 5) into the center area of the target, with the rest clustering around the edge of the pattern.
Then I shot up a case of clay pigeons. After a bit of practice I could hit every clay pigeon from every angle, but I wasn't dusting them. Instead, they would just break up into chunks. My cousin, an excellent shot, had the same experience with the gun, but with his Winchester pump from the same shooting position he'd turn the clay to dust.
I've heard other people complain about stock Benelli chokes and suggest aftermarket chokes. Anyone have any experience with this?
