Hi all.

My Benelli which I've recently bought has a strange fault.

When firing 28 gram shells (birdshot) the bolt carrier is ejecting the shell and chambering the next one, BUT it's occasionally falling to go fully forward.

The bolt is going 9/10s of the way forward, but when it comes to rotate that final bit so the firing pin is poised to be in the final position it's stopping.

Someones told me it could either be the guns not 'fired-in' yet, the bolt needs more oil (possible) or even the 28 gram shells aren't powerful enough for reliable cycling. The latter seems odd as it's already done the main bit it's just the final part of the cycle it's falling down on.

Thoughts and previous experience from Benelli owners appreciated.

Clean and oil it and see if it helps. Don't over do it. It may well just need a little lube and breaking in if it has not been fired very much before you bought it.

Never had mine not feed when firing. I did let mine get completely dry once and noticed the same thing when loading the gun. The bolt closed SLOWLY, but still cycled when fired. A drop or 2 of oil and everything was back to normal.

I had a Benelli Super 90 back when they were paired up with H&K. It had problems ejecting lighter loads and if ejected then cycling the bolt all the way forward.

Never could get it to work right with light loads and sold it off years ago.

The M1S90 is used extensively in 3Gun competition. Most shooters use 1 1/8 oz loads or heavier. Some use less powerful loads once the springs break in a bit. I still use Winchester AA127.

same problem

I had the same problem with mine when I first got it. I just disassembled everything (about 2-3 minutes), found a little debrie around the bolt from the factory, cleaned it thoroughly, sprayed it with some Rem Oil and that took care of it. I've no problem shooting everything from the Winchester Low Recoil/Low Noise loads up to the 1550 Fast Steel 3".

If, after trying out a few of the previously mentioned suggestions, you are still encountering this problem, try here: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/

This is a great forum for those who happen to own a Benelli shotgun. The only downside is, of course, limited traffic. Still, I recommend this avenue should all else fail (aside from contacting Benelli CS, that is).

Just lube it up and run full power loads through it to break it in. You didn't say how many rounds you had through it. I have an M3, but it cycles target rounds like there's no tomorrow. Just break it in good and it will run..
