I picked up my Benelli M1 Tactical yesturday and picked up 100 rounds of 00 Buck and another 300 rounds of Federal Bulk Pack 12 gauge ammo. I shuttered at the thought of reliability after hearing all these things about light loads not being able to cycle through the gun and you need to break her in hard.

I tore the Benelli down last night and oiled bolt and rails. Cycled a few dummy rounds through it and played with the action for a little while. The bolt was pretty stiff and the dummy rounds didnt really cycle too well. So I cycled the bolt a few dozen more times and went to bed.

Today I took along the pile of ammo and invited Sactown and another buddy of mine to come out and shoot. The first 5 rounds that went into the Benelli were #8s from the Federal Value packs. She digested them like a champ. We when shot about 60 rounds of buck shot and the rest of the ammo thrown down range were from the Federal Value packs. Not one failure to fire, failure to feed or failure to eject. I shot this gun from the shoulder, hip and even gangster style side ways. She kept digesting the ammo and throwing it down range. This was all under 2 hours. The barrel got nice and hot and she continued to rock and roll. Sactown shot the gun like a champ. Box after box of ammo he had a big silly grin on his face. Ask him how much Benellis suck he will tell you they suck so much he had to buy one himself.

After 250 rounds of #8s I gave my buddy a box of the shotshells so he could shoot his Mossy. I finished the rest of the ammo and it was a good day.

The Benelli digested 61 rounds of Winchester Super X 00 Buck and 275 rounds of Federal #8 Target loads. Sactown took home 9 boxed of 00 buck to break in his Benelli.

The gun was accurate, reliabe and didnt recoil more than an 870 would.

The next time you hear about a Benelli not cycling or recoiling too hard remember my range report.

So you think benelli's suck too huh...

My M1 Tac must be starving...

I really need to shoot it more. It's my first shotgun. It's interesting how it's very important to hold it correctly [don't put stock where arm and shoulder connect :banghead: ]. I so need to shoot at things besides paper.

ROFLMAO!!!

I thought he was serious at first!

I would like to get one of the older Benellis with the wood stocks. I love my dad's SBE 3.5 mag.... WHAT A GUN!

Yeap, Benelli's suck so bad I had to order one just to see it for myself. After witnessing the horror of 45R's Benelli gorging on shotgun shells without the slightest burp, I knew I made the right choice.

Mine has never hiccuped once. Light or heavy loads - it's digested everything. Too bad it sucks. ;) :p

I have had the same crappy experience with mine. It really burns me up when I plunk down my hard-earned cash on a gun and it performs exactly the way I want it to. It’s not bad enough that it digests everything I’ve put in it, it also only takes a couple minutes to clean the damn thing.

I should have known better after my experience with my SBE. That POS, has gone swimming 3 times, my dog steps all over it while in my layout boat, and it still won’t jam.

Every shotgun class I have been to, me and my M1S90 has been twice as fast as anyone with a pump. Instructors included. No malfunctions.

Maybe we should write these guys.

Glad you guys are having fun and have reliable shotguns. Pity you had to pay about 4X what an equally or more reliable 870 costs.

Use life on 870s seem to run about 250K rounds. Get back to me when your pet Benelli runs through that many rounds...

I'll say two things about the Benellis. Between my wife and I, we've got two. Both have been used extensively for clays target shooting and a fair amount of bird hunting. Each has digested thousands of shells. They are easy to clean and there is NO visible wear except for minor stock dings. The way they are built, I see no reason why they wouldn't last nigh-on-forever.

The second thing is that many (if not most) of the high-volume dove-shooting places in Argentina use Benellis as rental/loaner guns. Those things get shot more in a week than most guns do in a year... and they keep on going. I would be willing to bet that there are some Benellis in South America which are over the 250K shell mark.

One hunting article I read while getting a hair-chop noted that some of those South American Benellis have in access of 1 million rounds while still being used as renter/loaner guns.

It could be possible...

I dont regret a single penny that I spent on my Benelli or my new found Benelli "Snobery".

I found the value in the M1 when I shot it last year at the THR Thanksgiving Turkery Shoot. The M1S90 fit well in my hands and I shot her well. I guess you can pity me also for spending 4X more for a Sig 226 when I could have had a CZ75B or SW Sigma that could be equal or more reliable than my Sig. :neener:

What more could I ask for, I now own two of the most reliable shotguns on the planet?

Then what.............. :D :neener: :D

Shhhhhh, Old McCrackin may throw down the "gauntlet"......

IMO Benelli's aren't for "Serious" work since uh, since they uh are so expensive :p

45R,
I think the ammo issue is from the M3's, mine will shoot most shotgun ammo. It really hates low base and will choke on those cheap ACTIV shells.

So I just remember to feed it what it likes when using the semi-auto mode. When in pump mode it will eat everything you can feed it.

45R, welcome to the Benelli club. Bout time you joined.

Oh, I have a M3 and there are no feeding issues with it. They are just as reliable as the M1 but with the extra ability to switch to pump if you get tired of just shooting auto.

My M1 ran just fine right out the box. I haven't seen any ammo failures yet, but then again I haven't tried those light target loads like the bulk packs at Wally World. The way I understand it, sitting the butt against something solid like a wall will make it choke, since it's not like your shoulder/body giving way and letting the inertia system do it's thing. My Benelli fits me a lot better than my Mossberg did (although that could have been remedied with a shorter stock), it's been dead pan reliable so far, and it's just plain ol' fun.

I like it. :)

Nelson,

Guns don't suck. People suck.

Maybe it's not your Benelli; maybe it's you.

Two words: Surefire 618FA. (or was it the 617FA?)
