Benelli M3 rifle sight help

I have a pre-ban benelli m3 with rifle sights. Should I be trying to shoot something dark or in low light, my sights disappear. What can I do to my sights so that I may see them in low-light situations or when shooting something dark? A friend mentioned drilling the sights and inserting tritium vials - I don't know anything about the specifics but it doesn't look like there would be enough 'sight' to insert vials. Any help would be appreciated.

What works for me and many others costs about $3.

Testor's Enamel is available in hobby shops and craft stores. It's used on model airplanes and cars. The Bright Yellow and Gloss White colors show up nicely in low light.

I've done a couple beads with either. My GM has a white outline rear and a yellow "insert" in the front. A dot of yellow on the front sight of my HD 870 works well, and white does the same thing on the one I use for Deer.

HTH....

How does your M3 work, BTW? I am interested in purchasing one, but I heard that it is not as reliable in semi mode as the M1 Super 90 is. How does it function in pump mode compared to an 870? Any other comments on the guns? Thanks.

MrJones,

A while back I saw a post (might not have been THR) which was started by a fellow with an M1S90 (rifle sites). He had his local smith drill and install a tritium vial into the front site blade.

During a class I took, a fellow Benelli shooter had a very similiar setup to mine. The only difference was he had a fiber optic clamp on sight. This fiber optic was eithe a tru-glo or one very akin to it.

I handled his shotgun, and in the low light of the range gathered light quite well.

Call Tooltech 248-628-1811. They do the drilling stuff for Trijicon when Trijicon can't just kick your sights out and put new ones in. They may be able to help you.

That said, I put tritiums on my M1S90. It was my first (and only) combat shotgun and I love tritiums for pistol. I found them completely unnecessary with the shotgun.

I think any combat shotgun should have a light on it (rule #4 yo, checkit), and the light, while helping you identify your target, also does a nice job of backlighting your sights.
