Shot a Benelli M1 at the range this past weekend and loved it. I would really like the M4 but a friend at work showed me the FN SLP.

Which do you guys prefer?

My choice will ultimately be used to shoot slugs at the range and for HD.

I know there is a ~$500 difference between the two as well.

Let me know what you guys think!

I have the SLP Police model and think it's a fantastic shotgun.

The Benelli has more industry support and is much more widely known but I'd bet if you combine all of the FN, Browning and Winchester shotguns based on the SLP's action there have been as many or more sold than the Benelli.

I say get the FN, it may be the last tactical shotgun you ever care to own, I know that's how I feel.

I have got to tell you that I would have bought an M4 long ago but it's simply too expensive to justify when I can get a comparable tactical shotgun for FAR less such as the FN you mentioned (I decided on an 1187-P and later on a Saiga 12 both NIB combined less than a Tactical M4 with the extended magazine). But the ABSOLUTE deal killer for me is the short magazine tube on the M4 and the subsequent $200+ it takes to purchase/install a magazine extension which puts the gun in the EXTREMELY expensive category (at least for my wallet).

I just don't know how it can be considered a true tactical shotgun when it has a magazine capacity of only five rounds. I will never question the military's decision to adopt the M4 as their main tactical shotgun as I have shot them and they are sweet and flawless--But, of course, the extended magazines are standard configuration for LE&Military. Even if I could have purchased an M4 mag extension for a reasonable price (I have no gunsmithing talent unfortunately like many of you in this forum have) I would have considered buying one even with the $1K+ MSRP). Again, just my opinion.

-Cheers
