Benelli M4

I fired the M4 last weekend, despite the technical difficulty of cycling.

Shooting 2 3/4 Winchester deer slugs, The recoil was very pleasant and manageable, but the muzzle tilt was tremendous. The rubber butt plate absorbed a lot of the shock. Not as bad as a single-action Mossberg shooting deer slugs. I would rate the recoil as 60% of the felt-recoil of a single-action Mossberg shooting deer slugs.

Apparently, the aftermarket forward grip manufactured by Mako hindered the my M4 function. Gunsmith told me that it cycled without problem with original factory grips, very strange.

After removing the aftermarket grip and replacing it with factory grips, I took my Benelli M4 to the range today, and I fired 50 rounds of deer slugs through it in 20 minutes... this time with no jams. Yes, factory Benelli M4 actually holds seven 2 3/4 shells (5 in the mag, one in the chamber, and one ghosting).

At 50 yards, with Eotech 512, I am getting a 4 inch group, considering that each bullet hole is about 1 inch... (essentially a giant hole with a diameter of 4 inches)... pretty good with non-match grade Winchester deer slugs.

I potentially could do a little better than the 4 inch grouping if I am fearless... the large grouping is partially due to trembling as a result of fear... fear of being rocked back each time when I pull the damn trigger... :)

The pistol grip certainly was needed to take away some of the felt recoil... without a pistol grip, I probably won't last 50 rounds of slugs in 20 min.

I was getting a tighter group than the Yugo SKS next to me... the poor dude thought SKS was awesome... until I started firing.

Get over your fear, and use the iron sights. I get a one-hole 5 shot group offhand at 25 yards with reduced recoil slugs that way...and I have the standard stock...
