Has anyone shot the new Benelli R1 in 338 mag? I've read good things about the accuracy of the R1, and was thinking of getting a 338 for some reason. How is the recoil?

I had one in 30.06 and it was a good gun. I probably put 300 rounds through it with no problems whatsoever. However, mine was a 2 MOA gun. I tried many factory hunting, match, and handloads, and it pretty much shot everything into 2" groups. Hot, cold, clean, dirty, light bullets, or heavy, 2".

I don't have a 338 but I do have two R1's, both 30.06 carbines w/ wood stocks. Both are MOA rifles w/ Hornady 150grn SST factory ammunition. R1's don't like to be rested out at the end of the fore stock, best results come from resting it closer to the receiver. Also, R1's have a really thin barrel profile - necessary to keep the weight down to 7 lbs. That thin barrel heats up fast and if you don't let it cool between shots groups will open up a little.

They are favorite hunting rifles for both myself and my son:
