Benelli Supernova malfunctioning

Hello. I recently purchased a brand new Benelli Supernova (20115). I haven't shot it yet but I've cycled it about 100 times with snap caps and various live ammunition. I can get it to function properly sometimes, if I rack it excessively hard, but when I rack it reasonably hard, it consistently fails to eject and double feeds. I have owned a Winchester 1300, a Remington 870 super magnum and a Mossberg 590 and I know that you can get pretty much any pump to malfunction if you rack it too lightly or slowly, but I'm telling you, I have to rack the Supernova what I would consider to be unreasonably hard just to hope that it works. I think that it either has an oversized chamber, a misshapen lifter, a weak extractor spring, an undersized ejector, or something. I submitted the form for the warranty but, in the meantime, have any of you out there had similar trouble with a Supernova and/or have you had any experience with Benelli's customer service, so I can be better informed when I contact them and know what to expect? Thanks.

I would go out and shoot about 50-100 shells through it before deciding it doesn't work right. Snap caps don't have the same profile as an empty hull, and live ammo has a different weight and profile than an empty hull. Supernova is designed around 3.5" shells, are your snap caps at least as long as an open 2.75" hull.

Granted there might be something wrong with the gun, but until you actually fire it how do you know.

First clean and lubricate your shotgun. Most new guns are shipped with a rust preventative that is not a lubricant but is often mistaken as one. Your dry working the action may may have made the parts begin to bind a bit from lack of lubricant. See if that doesn't get the parts working better. Then take it out and do some shooting. If the problem problem manifests then call the manufacturers customer service. At least you can then explain the problem when using the weapon as it was designed.

Benelli Nova has a long slide action. You are most definitely short-shucking it. It’s not an 870 or Mossburg 500. Rack it with authority and it will run like a tank. Once I figured this out, I’ve not had an issue. I’ve been able to shoot pairs on the clay course as well as follow-up shots on pheasant. It’s my bad weather gun when I don’t feel like having to properly clean my wood and steel.

I seem to recall my benelli being a bit stiff when new. The bolt locking mechanism is more like an AR than an 870 but it loosens up after a bit. After a bit of shooting it’s as smooth as any other pump. My 20 ga Nova has a tighter chamber so if I don’t get the brass resized fully reloads are sticky too.

I just bought 2 Benelli Super novas. One will eject live shells perfectly. The other Super Nova will not eject live rounds just like the Problem the OP is having. I have sent it back to Benelli now twice and they say they can’t find anything wrong.
I did have other feed issues also with the problematic Super Nova that seems to have been addressed by the return to Benelli.
All I can say is if this is normal for the gun not to eject live rounds like all other pump shotguns then I I will never own another Super Nova. When trying to empty a loaded gun gun is a pain in the butt to empty.
And why does my other Super Nova eject live rounds fine while the other does not ?
Bothe Super Novas are of around the same manufacture date.

This made me laugh as I read your response.

Can you answer how to empty this loaded gun for storage in a decent fashion without have to reach in the receiver and digging live rounds out of it two at a time and then repeating the process till all 8 shells are out of it ?
With other normal functioning pumps I rack the slide till the gun is empty, With the Super nova I find myself having to finesse and flip the gun sideways to dump the live round on the ground or catch in my hand.

The correct way to unload a pump or semi-auto is to depress the shell stop to unload the magazine one round at a time. Although most of us tend to do it by ejecting the rounds by working the action that isn't really the safest way to do it.
