My son bought a new break barrel Titan .22 caliber that comes with a 4x32 scope. We are having problems getting shots to group at abut 25 yards. Generally, we can get a couple of shots in about a 1 1/2' group, but then there will be a couple shot several inches away. We are shooting Crossman premier hollow points.

Is it us, the gun, or the scope (which is tight, and the rings) ?

On a unrelated note, what happened to all the threads on the Air Gun section?

I have a Benjamin Titan GP .22 with nitro piston. It shoots like any break barrel pellet rifle I've tried (which are not that many).

Essentially, when all is coming together well, I can shoot 1" groups at 25 yards with good pellets. I have to hold the gun consistently shot to shot or group sizes gets ridiculous. It is much harder for me to shoot a break barrel pellet gun well compared to a pump up pellet gun or a firearm.

BTW, to see more threads you have to extend the days of the forum view. Look at the bottom left of the forum you are in and you'll notice the default is for 2 days. Change that in the menu, click "show threads" and you'll see more.

I have only shot the Crosman Premium hollow point, as I am attempting to shoot squirrels.

I saw a well done YouTube video today showing a test with different pellets in a Benjamin Trail NP. It was remarkable how much difference pellets make.

I just shot the gun again and just sprayed pellets everywhere, like shots 4-5 inches apart. I am wondering if I need to clean the barrel. We have probably shot 300-400 pellets through the new rifle.

I have taken a picture of a new target we shot this afternoon and will attempt to load it to show how how bad we are throwing pellets around.

This is a target my son and I shot this afternoon. He shot at the Orange square with and x in it on the left, and I shot the one one the right. Pay no attention to the numbering, the point is that you can see the pellets are just landing all over the place. Note: the image needs to be rotated 90 to the left; the words should be right side up

I was shooting much better a couple days ago. I could get two shots about an inch apart, with a couple more several inches away. Those shots on the target in the picture are the worst we have seen. It's like its getting worse. I am starting to think it is the scope.

If it is like the two Titans I've had time with, the scopes can loosen up on their mounts real easy. They pretty much need loctite and you have to be sure the rear scope ring has that scope stop screw getting into the top of the gun.

Plus, if your scope is like the two I've looked through, they are cheapo Centerpoints. The ones I've used are airgun rated and so far the cross hairs stay pretty steady. However, it seems we have to make minor scope adjustment fairly regularly.

Your problem is very common and could be a lot of different things, likely a combination of things. The pellets, how you hold the gun, parallax, barrel droop, a loose barrel, a bad barrel, air leakage and misc problems are all common. These guns are a Chinese copy of good design on the cheap, so imo they all need work.
The scopes parallax is set to ~100' so 75 isn't too bad but I'd adjust it anyway. Barrel droop means the barrel is pointing down and the scope doesn't like that, so shim the scope to match. The barrel may have up/down play, and most likely has side to side play which can be helped by using metal side washers instead of the oem plastic. The main seal no doubt leaks and the breech seal may leak, so ideally you should fix those. The barrels are often inconsistent and rough, so try pushing some pellets thru with a dowel to check for tight spots and roughness. Those barrel problems can be greatly improved but not really fixed.
If you want I have info on all the above with pix; chevota at hotmail and remind me of who you are.

I put a weaver rimfire scope with weaver mounts on mine. Hammering Grackles at 35-40 yards. Scope and mounts that came with it were continuously having issues.

Grackles are protected if you can fathom that. City worker tipped me off not to leave them. We have Cormorants.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff to consider. I am somewhat irritated that I gotta tinker around with that much stuff. Would it really cost Crosman that much more to do it right? Where did I get steel washers and replacement seals? And I are the replacement seals any better. Is this something I will have to do every couple of hundred shots?

I ordered some pellet variety packs and a Leapers Hunter scope yesterday from Pyramid.

I will e-mail you for the info you described. Thanks.
