Beretta 1301 21" or 24"

Hello friends,

I have several overunder shotguns and a single barrel I use for clay targets. I see enough guys with semiautomatic guns on the trap line that I want to give it a try, and I might consider the gun for something like 3-gun competition as well. Unlikely to be used for HD, just gun game competition and clay targets.

I think the beretta 1301 looks like a good choice, might use an m4 if anything was on the line but since its not a 1301 sounds just fine. On the one hand a 21" seems handier, but 24" would certainly help on birds and might be just fine for competition otherwise...

Any opinions on which one I should grab?

If I wanted to be competitive at Trap I wouldn’t purchase a 1301.

I think the 1301 is a fine gun for HD but seems your OAs are better for trap.
But of the choices above, the longer barrel would be better.

I saw a kid with a pistol grip m4 clone (Toros I think) popping clays right out of the house, like 1 second shots every time and he was shooting 20+

It just looked fun, and I need a 3-gun semi auto anyways. My best scores come on the bt-99 but style counts on my personal score sheet and the ones that kid smoked with his m4 were the coolest smoke clouds we saw.

Thats why crossover for 3-gun is my deciding factor on 21 or 24

24 allows for a longer extended mag tube without it exceeding barrel length.

24" is the minimal barrel length at my club.
