Hey guys, looking to buy a Beretta 3901 tomorrow in synthetic to make my new workhorse gun. Had a few questions before I buy this shotgun.

1) Where should I buy from? Gander vs Dick's. I know Bud's has it cheaper, but it's only $599 in store without tax. So the real difference with fees would be small, and I'd rather go in store. I do live in Illinois so I have to wait a day. I've bought from Gander before, no problems. Never bought from Dick's, is it the same as everywhere else? I've read they have extra paperwork, and horror stories of waiting more days.

2) Where can I find shims? I know they are not included, and a quick google didn't bring anything up.

3) Recoil pad? What's the best one to get, and size? Pre-fit or slip on?

I bought a rifle from Dick's a few years ago. Maybe the same store you are talking about (Ive bought from Bloomington IL & Peoria's location). I dont recall any extra paperwork and wouldnt hesitate to buy from them again.

You might want to shoot the gun as is before worrying about recoil pads until you see how well it fits you. $600 is the standard MSRP that everyone charges, so buy where you feel comfortable.

It is a decent semi and a great one for the price

You're right, buying from the Peoria store, I actually live in Eureka so we're not too far away! I had just read online about extra paperwork, but those stores could be in other states obviously.

My 3901 has quickly become my favorite semi-auto. It does not have "extra" shims, but the shims that are in it are reversible for stock adjustments. i hope you enjoy your new Beretta shotgun!

I ordered shims for mine from Cole's, however, a quick check shows that they no longer list parts for the 390 series on their website. Brownells has them here:

The spacer between the stock and receiver is reference 10. You will also require the corresponding washer in the base of the stock which is reference 15.
