just wondering if a .40 on the open slide platform is a decent firearm,92 or 96 im not sure, also it has no hammer.doa i guess, never seen any berettas under 300.00 this ones 279.00.i am wanting a little longer barrell .40 then my firestar .40.it shoots fine, been shooting a old remington rand .45 of my friends, like the longer barrell.

Sounds like a Beretta 96 D or DS, need pictures to be sure. Mags are easy to get, and its a reliable gun, at least mine was. A personal thing for me was to change out the recoil spring to something stronger, the .40 snaps a little harder than the 9 in that configuration. Not terribly concealable, but if you just want a plinker or home defense gun, it should do everything you want it to.

Sounds like a 96D. The 96 is chambered in .40 while the 92 is chambered in 9mm.

It has a hammer, just no hammer spur, as the DAO Berettas removed the spurs. It also has a slick slide (no safety/decocker)

My 96 is an excellent gun, being reliable and accurate (most accurate .40 I've shot, compared to a Glock 22 and Sig 229/226) and factory magazines are very affordable.

On a used gun, I'd replace the locking block and the recoil spring just for peace of mind

i dont know, the gun just felt and looked like a good gun.i like the slide without controls on it.dont know i may trade in my star firestar .40 but its been a great gun i"m not gonna give it to them.then i may just keep it.and get it anyway.

If that is a 96D Beretta in decent shape and not all rusted or beat up $300 is a good price. They usually go for $450 to $500 around here. Grab it and enjoy it.They are great guns, solid feeling, shoot accurate enough(some are better than others),and reliable as you can hope for.
