Howdy

Any THR.org members know if a Beretta 96 series .40s&w can be converted to a 9mmNATO pistol(like the model 92) with a replacement 9mmNATO barrel, mags and/or springs.

I have a 96D .40 and want to replace the parts to fire 9mmNATO out of the same weapon.

Thanks!

RS :D

I've heard it's possible but don't know for sure...go ask over on the beretta forum...berettaforum.net (I think) ;)

I researched this a while back and I believe the answer is no. While you can change a 92 to a 96, for some reason you can not go the other way. Something about this was on beretta's website.

There are slide and frame differences on some of the 96's, but I don't know which ones. For sure, the Centurions have beefier frames and slides (96G?).

You need an entire 92 top end to convert a 96 to 9mm correctly. People have reported success with just swapping the barrel, though. Also, the factory recoil springs are identical between the 9mm and .40 S&W Berettas (13 lbs, IRC). The Beretta Forums are likely a good place to ask for more information.
