First off, this thread is just because of a weird thought that occurred to me recently.

I did some searching to make sure I wasn't duplicating a post first, but has anyone other than me ever wished that Beretta would make a 92 series pistol in .45ACP?

I just think that would be the coolest thing. If they could make it a single-stack mag like the Cheetah, and slim the grip some, or at the very least keep the same grip profile as the 92, that would be awesome. Of course the barrel and slide would have to be beefed up some to accommodate the larger round.

I just love the look, feel, and function of the 92 series pistols and think it would be sweet if they offered one in a .45. Am I crazy, or is there anyone else out there that thinks something along these lines would be cool also?

Have you seen the Beretta Cougar in .45 ACP? They're now sold under the Stoeger name, but you can still find the Berettas out there.

This question has been posed on the this and the Beretta Forum at various times. I think the general consensus was that the engineering involved to make 92 frame work with a .45 was doable , but as you surmised, would make the firearm beefy in the form of unreasonable width, weight and diminished capacity. The Cougar 8045 was a nice pistol and would be what I would call a soft shooter.
