It says Beretta 92FS in the listing and on the slide... but... is it a mixmaster with an FS slide/upper on a 92X frame? Or is it a 92FS Vertec? Or something else? Is this offered in a factory configuration? Thanks

It's all 92X with a 92FS slide and Wilson Combat sights.

Yeah it’s a 92x frame with a 92FS slide/barrel. The 92x barrel does not extend past the end of the slide like it does on 92FS and M9 variants.

The gun in OP's post matches the ones I found being sold elsewhere.

Beretta's serial number look-up says the following:

Firearm Info

Firearm Serial Number:
BER788436

Firearm Model Number/SKU
SPEC0667A
Firearm Gauge / Caliber
9mm PARA
Firearm Model Description
92FSX Full Size 2x15rd
Firearm Family
PISTOL
Firearm Born On Date
10/30/2020

It appears to be a factory gun. I'm finding that configuration for sale elsewhere.

Beretta is known to get leftover parts, slap 'em together, and sell them as some special sku just to clear out inventory. S&W has done the same with 2nd and 3rd Gen automatics and Colt has done the same with 1911s and AR-15s.

Good job. I tried to do the same, but the lookup I found required asking Beretta.

Now I have a question: what is the point of this configuration? I have a plain 92X. Its slide looks exactly like that, except the front sight is dovetailed in place. Also, it came with 3x10rd instead of 2x15rd.

My guess is Beretta had a pile of left over 92FS slides. So, they slapped 'em on available frames and dumped them on the market. They always do stuff like that and so did S&W and Colt back in the day too.

For example, when Big Blue transitioned from the 2nd to the 3rd Gen line of automatics. They had leftover parts. They slapped 'em together and sold 'em. 2nd Gen slides ond 3rd Gen frames and vice versa.

The Prancing Pony would slapped together leftover AR parts too. Same with 1911s.

The Italian Stallion has done the same.

Parts sitting in inventory is lost revenue. Parts slapped together and sold as a gun is money.

With the move from MD to TN and the end of the M9 contract. Beretta probably has a number of parts in inventory they'd like the make money off.

Question if you don’t mind: Is the finish the same on the 92X slide? Does your X have a flush-cut barrel or is it like the ones above?

Also Does the X have forward serrations and is the right side safety stamped/one piece or is it the new 2 piece style?

The "flush cut" barrel as you call it, is just a barrel from the Elite line. They've been making that pattern of barrel since the mid 1990s. They've been used for the Elite IA, Elite II, Border Marshal, etc... it is a recessed target crown.

Here's my Elite II which was made back in the early 00s before the Clinton AWB expired.

Yeah, I’m trying to determine the differences between the standard X and this 92FSX weirdness 😃

Hard to say for sure. I can tell you that I don't care for the target crowned barrel. Fouling built up in the recess and was hard to remove, I couldn't tell that it was more accurate, and I just liked the original 92FS look with the barrel coming out of the front of the slide more.

The finish looks the same. It's dark black and glossy. Not bluish or brownish.
The barrel is flush, so not like pictured. It has a deeply recessed crown.
No forward serration.
The right side safety is 1-piece, but I cannot be sure it was like that. I converted mine to G with the official kit. IIRC I re-used the original right side lever.

I'm on a Beretta 92 kick lately and ....well I would be all over that one. I like the look of it and would like to try the Vertec grip angle.

ETA: Looking at JBT's post reminds me I need to be on the look out for SS 92. Back in the day, that was by far and away the best looking Wonder 9 of the bunch!

It is CA approved, so maybe it’s set up for approval.
