I just bought a used Beretta 92FS that appears to be in great shape. Shoots great! But I was messing around with it and something weird was occuring. When the slide is racked with the safety ON it does not return to battery. It cocks the hammer back but stops just short of battery. If I push the slide forward it locks closed but drops the hammer! Will this happen if a loaded mag is inserted? This may be why I got it so cheap......help:uhoh:

That's normal. When the decocker is down, it presses down on this thing that drops the hammer, but the firing pin plunger is out of the way. The force of the little lever that releases the hammer is resisting against the safety when it slides gently into battery.

If you rack it with the safety on you either have to assist it forward or just let it fall harder. I know it looks scary, but it's safe ;)

Gotcha! It donned on me after I went home and picked it up and looked at it again. Evertything made sense and I came to the same conclusion. Thanks for the assist thou, I appreciate it. Just getting so used to my 1911's... But the Beretta is definately a keeper!
