I bought a used Beretta 92 f compact a while back and got to shoot it for the first time today. it is a traditional DA/SA model but sometimes (most of the time) the hammer follows the slide down. If I rack the slide by hand it stays cocked...when firing it decocks itself.
Any ideas what I should check first or does it need to take a trip back to Beretta?
Thanks
Jason

You need to have a good understanding of the Beretta to find the exact problem, but either the hammer, sear or hammer release lever is not functioning properly. Those parts are all in the frame. In the slide, the safety might be lowering under recoil, hitting the hammer release lever in the frame.

The factory should fix it for free.

Update, i took the hammer and sear out to see if it had been modified or damaged...looked fine. No mods or apperciable wear

You may want to; could have been a simple fix you could have done.

Let's hope it doesn't happen again in the future, but if it does at least you'll know how to fix it.
