I have a Beretta 96 that I like to shoot. I saw today at a local shop a Beretta 92 slide, barrel, guide rod, and spring for $125. I thought that this would be nice to pick up for cheaper practice. The people at the shop were not sure wether or no this would work. What do you all think? can I simply pick up the slide and install it on my gun? If so is this worth it? Thanks for any help.

It should work just fine. Your .40 cal magazines will hold 14 rounds of 9mm and will function perfectly. The one thing I'm not sure about is the ejector. You might want to find a buddy with a 92FS and compare the ejector with your 96 first.

Oh, and make sure they're both full-size. I once swapped out a fullsize slide with a Centurion frame. They are NOT interchangeable!

same frame on both guns, however the civillian models are not as tight on tolerances as the m9 is, with the m9 it is completely interchangable, meaning switching frames and slides will not cause extended wear from the 2 new parts mating together.

With you setup there may be a bit of extra wear as the parts mate up, but it should be fine

Beretta factory told me the 92/96 frames are not identical. There is (or was) a slight difference in the feed ramp cut into the frame. Beretta once sold a "double gun" 92/96 with both top ends and they told me it was the 96 frame with both 92/96 slide/barrel assemblies. I assume the ejector and all the other frame hardware were stock 96 parts.

The 96 mags should feed 9mm, but again, Beretta factory told me the followers are not the same so they may not feed reliably 100% of the time. Most people who try it say it works.

As for slides interchanging between guns: it's guaranteed on the M9's, not on the civ guns. I suspect the slides and frames that don't "spec out" tight enough to be M9's end up as civ 92's, but most 92's will interchange slides and still work OK. Beretta does not guarantee it.

oops i knew i forgot something, yes the feed ramp angle is different. However on the double guns sold by the factory, they had the 40 wider ramp angle, since the 9mm is a smaller bullet, it will feed easy( reverse will not happen) Since your base gun is a 40, you will be fine with the 9 upper

I read somewhere that it is not a good idea to swap slides on Berettas, even those of the same caliber.

If I were you, I'd call the factory to confirm.
