Beretta 92FS 9mm

THe 92fs was my first handgun purchase. It's big, it's heavy, but man is it a joy to shoot. For me, it is what I shoot most accurately and I don't have really large hand by any means. And everyone who has shot it has had similar experiences. The thing is a tack driver.

IMO it is too large for most to comfortably carry concealed day in day out, but for the range and for home protection, it is tough to beat in 9mm. Also, I think the 92fs / M9 is iconic - maybe not as much as the 1911 but not far from it. I love mine and will never part with it.

1st time I shot a 92fs I thought I was shooting some weak loads. It has very little recoil due to its all steel full size frame. Great accurate weapon with a smooth DA/SA trigger. I like to use 124gr +p Golden Sabers in mine. It has never jammed, I carry it in a shoulder holster under a jacket in the winter sometimes. Mec-Gar makes 18rd magazines and a plus two extension for a whopping 20+1 capacity that is pretty much flush fitting. No jams, they work perfect in the 92fs.

the only thing I don't like about the 92 is the slide-mounted decocker/safety. I accidentally dropped the hammer and put the gun on safe during a speed reload during a local match last saturday, and once I forgot to move the safety lever back to 'fire' after decocking. First time I'd ever used the beretta in a match, and both issues can be trained around. I also had one mag issue (with the original beretta mag, which has never given me any trouble, ever). The rounds tipped nose down. Maybe time for a new mag spring. Also I think the cheap MFS and Remington/UMC ammo may have contributed; it gave me some trouble in my SIG also.

Here is some video footage of the 92 in action for those interested. The gun is remarkably smooth and fun to shoot, and accurate. This is not an Italian-made, but an ACK (I'm not going to try to spell Ackokeek or whatever... oops I just did), maryland 92FS fyi.

The frame is aluminum, except in some rare variants. You're correct that it has very little recoil, though. But most full size 9mms do, IMO.

Thanks for all the feedback. This gun fits my hand perfect. Yes, it does have some weight to it but I don't find it a back thing. I am very happy with my purchase so far.
Again thanks to all

Beretta 92fs Vertec for those with smaller hands.
Whoa, whoa. I thought the Vertec is just the finish, not the size. Am I wrong?

I bid on a Beretta model M once. It was a single stack. Now I wish I would have gone a bit more. (magazines are crazy expensive)

I've owned 2 Berettas: a model 92G and 92FS. Both were outstanding guns that looked very nice. Only reason I no longer own them is because I needed money. You won't be disappointed with a Beretta 92.

I personally do not like the M9 due to its size and weight.
I like the size and weight. Makes it sweet to shoot. Mine very occasionally failed to cycle with weaker ammo during the first 140 rounds but since then has fed everything.

INOX is the finish (stainless)

Vertec is that style of frame. Also a .2 shorter barrel and a dovetailed front sight for the vertec

You are correct. 100%

Vertec
(2003 –)

* New vertical grip.
* Short-reach trigger.
* Thinner grip panels.
* Integral accessory rail.
* Removable front sight (can be replaced with Tritium sight).
* Beveled magazine well (to enable easier/faster reloading).

I owned an Inox Vertec when they first came out - I prefer the standard grip, personally.

berretta choice

I personally own the beretta 96 model gov. issue 40 cal. Great gun no problems with it. when rapid firing it will give a slite kick over a 9mm . model 92 but it doesnt bother me .
