Beretta 92G-SD is back...

Just think it's cool that they are bringing it back. For a lot of people who like Berettas this is the one to have, and it wasn't previously available. I would get one if I had the cash...

Great. I just spent $1,200 on the new Wilson Combat/Beretta 92G Brigadier Tactical. At first the run of these was going to be only 1,000 units, and due to overwhelming demand, they're now going to make 2,500. At the time the 92G Brig Tac was announced, there was no sign on the horizon of Beretta ever bringing back anything close to the 92G-SD, and the Wilson Brig Tac was as close as you could get, but with many additional upgrades (and a price to match).

If this new 92G-SD ends up selling in gun shops for less than $1,000, I'll be slightly disappointed.

For those who don't know, the 92G-SD is considered the "holy grail" of the standard 92 lineup, but was only offered from 2002-2005. Used examples in good condition often fetch over $1,500 and sometimes up to $2,000 on auction sites.

The 92G-SD features things a regular old 92FS doesn't, like the heavy Brigadier slide with dovetailed front sight, a "G" decock-only mechanism, accessory rail, front and back strap checkering, beveled magazine well, night sights, etc.

I also like the concept of the upcoming Beretta M9A3. It looks like 2015 is going to be an expensive but exciting year for Beretta fans.

Nice! I have enough experience with an issued M9 to know what I don't like about the design. First the Wilson, now the 92G-SD coming back, addresses the major issues. I may have to get one of these 2 options. Already have holsters, mags, and plenty of trigger time on the platform, I just wouldn't spend my own $ on an FS.

That is going to be a lot of different slide/frame options from Beretta. I'm sure it is going to drive the holster makers crazy, for a while at least.

New Berettas always make me happy. Truth be told, I'm used to the 92fs enough that I don't feel the need for another one, but I might pick up one of the new M9A3s if I have a few bucks in my pocket in a year or two.

That said, I love the platform and I'm glad fans are getting more of what they want.

Why should I care?

Inflammatory title to get your attention I guess.

I never saw these on their first round and am curious between this post and the gushing over a Brigadier/Wilson thing.

I have a proper M-9 that I am very happy with and would like another full size Beretta for the cabin.

These two threads I find intriguing as an option but looking into the two guns - I get dizzy with info and comparisons.

So, I have an M-9 and anticipated waiting for the M-9A3.

What, in a simple list is special about the G-SD?

I see the rail but don't quite grasp what is so wonderful about the safety or bad about the M-9 safety.

Why do I want a wider slide?

Todd.

The 92G SD gives you the option for replaceable front sights since they are dovetailed in rather than part of the slide as on the 92FS & M9. Most 92/M9 don't come with night sights, so if that is your thing you now have that as an option or fiber optics or whatever sight you may like.

You also get a decocker only, rather than the safety/decocker on the 92FS & M9. If you don't think that is a big issue, take a look at any Beretta 92 thread and see if you can get through 5 posts before somebody will whine about the safety/decocker. Interestingly, you never see the same complaints in an S&W TDA auto thread or a Ruger P-Series thread. It must only be a problem with the Beretta.;) I never had a problem with the design, having started my semi-auto shooting with S&W autos, but for all the guys that have spent their entire lives in the no manual safety era of Glocks and SIGs, the decocker only is a big deal.

You also get a beveled mag well, which many really love, but it is still a double stack size hole in the grip, and I don't know how a simple bevel job makes a big difference finding that giant opening (I'm a single stack auto shooter).

Sums it up very nicely JTQ, thanks.

OK, I see the front sight as an upgrade.
Night sights? OK I guess.
Bevel? Whatever. I already have a "bevel" on the top of the magazine and it does not weaken the mag well.
Wider/heavier slide? Recoil is certainly not a consideration for me on an M-9 nor is grab-itude.

Now, that safety issue. Am I getting this correctly?

Mine, upon de-cock, disengages the hammer and trigger. The new one simply de-cocks and then the firearm can be fired immediately as double action rather than flipping the safety up?

If that's the case, I guess I can say, "I like the sights".

On the G models, the decocker is spring loaded to go back to the fire position after you release the lever. While I have an S&W 4506 with a safety/decocker and have no troubles with it, I would prefer a decocker only lever, though there are probably other features that would drive me to a particular Beretta more than just that lever, but it is what I would prefer.

I've been circling the Beretta bandwagon for a couple of years now and just when I get ready to get one, another model becomes available that I think I may like better. The "regular" 92G models have just been released, and I think that is the model I prefer. I'm not a big rail fan, and the extra slide dimensions for 9MM are probably not needed as you mentioned (the Brigadier slide was originally for the .40S&W model 96 guns), and I'm not much of a tinkerer so swapping out sights is not a big deal for me. I think, at least in the near term, I'll have more luck finding a holster for a regular 92G rather than for the 92G SD, Wilson 92G, 92A1, M9A3, or any of the other models without the standard 92 slide or frame.

got it then..

Like my SIG 230SL.

I do see the advantage.

Glad MEATBALL posted the thread now. I'm sold for my next full size Beretta.

Thanks, Todd.

While this is cool for most people who like Berettas it really stinks for those guys that purchased an original 92G-SD as an investment. Probably will be a hit to the pocketbook...

hi folks

so glad Beretta is doing this. Even happier that Wilson combat released the brigadier tac. I Finally--have one--Wilson combat wa s great about my ordering one--I live in Nazi state of Ct-- so 15 round magazine are taboo... Luckily Wilson Combat agreed to send the gun to mu lgs and I ate the magazines-- BUT this is such a sweet shooter it did not matter much in the end. Already had a p2fs italian and thought it was great--BUT this gun is head and shoulders above all that I own( sig p 229 elite ss is closest, then H+K p 30 in 9mm)--this gun makes me( a newer shooter)look like a pro

if you can swing the 1200 bucks-- back order one NOW--they are still available--YOU WILL not regret it!!!!(www.wilsoncombat.com)

"the best safety is a finger off the trigger"

happy shooting be safe

Rob
