I have recently decided to give up on the Mini 14. I just don’t shoot it well. I want to get something different than the AR platform. Don’t get me wrong, I love ARs, but I do a great deal of plinking and just want something different. I have a couple of ARs now. I haven’t seen any recent threads about the Beretta. Most of them are over a year old. I saw one in FDE at my local gun shop and I really liked it. I’ve read they are reliable but sights and triggers aren’t very good. Some reviews say the trigger is not that bad. Anyways, I can get the Beretta new or like new at or under $1000 from several different sources now, which is way cheaper than the SCAR, SIG, ACR, TAVOR, etc. All of my mags are either gen 2 magpul or Lancer L5AWM, so I should be good to go there. Any updates from owners about their Berettas would be greatly appreciated. I would like to shoot one, but I don’t know anyone who has one, so I am looking for first hand experiences from other owners.

I got one for my fiancé last year as she’s right handed but left eye dominant so I went looking for a lefty-friendly rifle and the Beretta fit the bill, especially with it's swappabable ejection. You heard right in that they are reliable and accuracy isn’t too bad either but the sights are crap and the trigger is heavy. It’s heqvier than the trigger on my HK91 and will max out my Lyman trigger pull gauge if that gives you any ideas about how heavy it is. There is an aftermarket trigger I put in it (I forget the maker off the top of my head) that brought it down to an acceptable level and she went with a 1-6 Vortex scope sights were taken off and it has been a good rifle for her ever since.

The one I handled had a less than satisfactory trigger. I’d pass.

If you want different, 5.56mm, and don’t mind some weight give the CZ 805 Bren carbine a look too. Roller bearing smooth action, piston gas, and the trigger is pretty dang legit out of the box since it’s a two stage.

I like mine quite a lot, as has everyone who has shot it. Nothing wrong with the trigger on mine, certainly no worse than my Mini-14 or Mini-30 and lighter than my first gen Tavor. I think its clever how everything is reversible without tools. Its lighter than your average AR and it does resemble a guppy in profile :)

Most important question - is it fun to shoot?

Of course its fun to shoot. Most any gun is fun to shoot, at least for a few shots, except perhaps my S&W Scandium .357 Mag J-frame :)

As I said, everyone who has tried it has liked it. The factory sights aren't the best but who uses irons on rifles anymore unless required by match rules. I've an EOTech on mine, anything heavier or bulkier just wouldn't seem right for it, YMMV.

Only reason I ask is because some people complain about the cheek riser and the stock not being long enough. I’m not worried about the stock, I prefer a little short over too long. I had a S&W scandium 1911 commander. I can shoot 1911s all day, but that thing had some snap, so I can only imagine how the 357 j frame would feel.

Everything I have read about the ARX is positive. The prices seem to be deep discounted as of late. Seems like it might be a good addition to the collection. Not mine of course I live in NY. But if I didn't . . .

I've shot one at a local rifle match and it worked pretty well. For a left handed person there aren't any rifles that let you pick the ejection side and CH side w/o swapping any parts or disassembly. Plus it uses standard AR type magazines that are easy to find and cheap.

As far as the trigger goes, I agree that it feels crap when trying it out dry firing, but I never noticed the trigger during a match when I was focused on the target and the sight. Art at Shootingsight* does make a replacement trigger that does have a crisp, clean break.

The ARX is a bulky but light rifle that's handy. It also breaks down into a tiny package when you fold the stock and pull the barrel, which takes longer to describe than to do. Beretta went all in on polymer with this rifle, there's very little steel in is besides the BCG and barrel.

Had been curious about them since they came out, but wasn't willing to spend $1900 for 1...Grab a gun had them for $899 and I couldn't resist.
Glad I got it-VERY light, piston driven, folding stock, many cool features, light recoil, and as much as anything, so very easy to clean.
I like my semi-auto's but don't like the 1 1/2 hours it takes me to clean 1 (yes, I AM picky!-this thing is just so easy to maintain.
Got the cr-2 cheek riser for $22, the Beretta bolt handle cover thingy for about $20, and am on notice from Shooting Sight for their next run of triggers that are supposed to be done in July (new I would replace trigger when I bought it, same as essentially every other semi I have with the exception of a Sig 516 carbon fiber and a barett rec 7 they both came with a geiselle as a stock item...also didn't change on Keltec RFB as it was really good out of the box.....this trigger really is good other than it's 10#
