Just put a Beretta M9 (Civilian edition) on layaway at the local Sportsman's Warehouse. I fired a friend's 92FS and liked the way it shot and fit my hand so decided to get this for a range plinker.

How are these for out-of-the-box reliability? I know a couple guys that bought 1911's and they had to do some tweaking to get reliable function.

I have a 16 year old Beretta that has never failed. I did have to replace the locking block, but that was at the 15 year mark. It will shoot anything I can stuff in the magazine. No FTF or FTE's.......ever. Yes, the 92FS is an ultra reliable handgun.

Very reliable design.

The open-top design reduces failure-to-eject malfunctions.

I have a few thousand rounds through my 92 and no issues so far.

I consider Sig and Beretta to be the reliability kings, based on my guns.

good choice, the newer M9s have fixed just about all the locking block/slide issues. I installed the steel spring guide rod on mine soon after I got it, and about 5K rounds later it hasn't had a malfunction of any kind. The chrome lined barrel makes it easy to clean, and just about all of the other plastic parts are actually plastic coated aluminum. The finish on the slide itself seems to be some kind of paint though, it will chip away under the slide where it contacts the top round in the mag. kinda wish they did the same beautiful parkerizing or anodizing type of finish the frame and barrell have

Never, not once, not ever...did my issue or privately purchased Beretta M9 have a stoppage, jam, or failure of any kind.

You can't go wrong, and you also won't need a break-in period.

I've found them much more reliable than 1911's I've shot. never had any jams of any kind on every one I've fired, can't say the same for 1911's I've fired.

No problems! The gun even malfunctioned with melted chocolate in the action. Don't ask. The point is, it's very reliable. Good choice.
