Had a pistol range yesterday, on Uncle Sam's dime!

I love free ammo!

Anyway, I was doing pretty good until the last string and last magazine. Just could not get the damn thing to feed. Finally got one chambered, just as the tower called cease fire.

"@#$@, I shot 23 out of 30", I thought, as I dropped the last magazine (still had 7 rounds left, grumble grumble grumble, ). The rounds that had been loaded by the range detail were all twisted forward and down- the top rounds was sticking straight up, case head in the air. Very weird. I'm not a raging fan of the Beretta, but I have to admit that it has always worked very well for me. Never saw any magazine jam up like that.

Still had the highest score that day........

Are you using 10 or 15 rounders? This happens to me sometimes but I just pop the bullet so it's facing the right way. I'm using 10-rounders FWIW.

"...loaded by the range detail..." I'd bet operator failure. The mag loaders, I mean. Your mag or their's? Bad mag spring or damaged lips.

Skunkabilly & Sunray- 15-round mags, USGI issue. The other ones worked just fine. Didn't see any damage. Never seen a magazine jam up like that.
After we got back to the arms room, another guy told me that the same thing happened to him. Wish I had a picture to show you to illustrate it better.

I'm not a raging fan of the Beretta, but I have to admit that it has always worked very well for me

Since I have never heard of this rare problem my guess is that someone is loading a few rounds backwards just for fun or stupidity. I'd unload and reload your magazines next time to see.

Sounds like bent feed lips and/or weak mag springs. Also could be dirty mags. After firing did you notice anyone disassembling and cleaning the magazines? Magazines used for range training aren't usually in the best of shape.

I've trained with the Army before and was a little stunned the first tiime I saw the ammo squad loading magazines for the shooters.

They should have given you an aliby for that stoppage.

Well, I don't know what to tell you about that. It's been a common practice for as long as I've been around. The ammo detail picks up the ammo for the range, keeps an eye on it, and loads magazines. My guess is that it is supposed to speed things up, and to keep the ammo in a central location so people aren't wandering around with it.
